This Book/Back Pack is excellent quality (ripstop nylon), Capacious, Lightweight, Sale Price & Shipping good. Perfect for an upcoming trip to Scotland! And incomparable L.L. Bean quality. In 1961, my feet had stopped growing and I bought calf-height Bean Maine Hunting Shoes for my all-weather Scout outings. 65 years later, they're still in excellent usable shape! They will doubtless outlive me. Bean's quality continues to set the bar.

Excellent quality
Excellent quality. We get these for our great grandkids. The ones we got our kids and grandkids are still being used and remain in great condition after several years of use. Highly recommend for kids for school!

5th Bean Backpack, first disappointment
Other 4 lasted well over a decade 2 were mine and 2 were my boys middle and high school bags that are STILL in use. Bought this one for a work bag and the zipper broke after less than 6 months of light use. I like to have both zipper pulls at the top so I can reach in left or right. The zipper would not stay closed so I used a carabiner to keep it closed for about a month. Now it just splits anywhere and is no longer usable. May just be bad zippers on this style.

The backpack is a great size but the pocket for the water bottle is incredibly loose and doesnt hold a water bottle of any size without it falling out.

Too big and bulky!
This backpack is HUGE! After decades of buying backpacks for various uses, I cannot imagine ever needing one this large (except for maybe a backpacking vacation!). I could not imagine any student actually needing this much space in their backpack and then be able to carry it once full.
I bought this to use as a daypack for family adventures and a vacation carryon (to then use as a daypack while on vacation.). The backpack is too large to use as a carryon so I’d never be able to take it on vacation.
Overall; this bag is just too large to be useful.
