Why We Love It
This exclusive flannel shirt is woven just for us by true Portuguese artisans. These expert craftspeople meticulously brush our Scotch Plaid fabric eight times on each side to create a long-lasting material with that distinctive smooth and cozy feel. But that doesn’t automatically make it plush enough. It still needs to pass the “touch test.” Only a master weaver can declare it soft enough.
Fabric & Care
- Made of high-quality Portuguese cotton flannel, an L.L.Bean exclusive.
- Expertly brushed for exceptional softness and warmth.
- Authentic Scottish tartan patterns are specially yarn-dyed so they’ll stay bright.
- Machine wash and dry.
- Button-front styling.
- Chest pocket.
- Shirttail hem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rubberducky from Way big! The fabric and construction of this shirt are of high quality. But beware! It runs very large, and fits like a tent. I usually take a medium in a women's shirt, but because of reviews, I ordered a small regular. It was so baggy that I could easily have worn a sweatshirt under it. I am 5'3'', weigh 124 and have a 38C bust. So I am returning it, and hope that by ordering the slightly shaped fit in a Petite Small I can get something that doesn't make me look like I'm wearing the top of a sleeping bag. Most of the plaid colors (variations on blue-red, navy, gray) are not too flattering on people with warm skin tones. How about some "warm" colors?

Rated 5 out of 5 by TommysGirl from Beautiful Scots Plaid I absolutely love this flannel shirt! It has the lovely Scots plaid and comes in so many lovely colors (Blackwatch, MacBeth, Dress Stewart, Black Stewart, etc.). I had to purchase multiples. It is so baby soft and cozy. People in my office wanted to know where I purchased this top. It runs a little large. I typically wear a Size Small (34"C, 27" waist and 126 lbs), but I read other reviews that said if you want more of a tailored look to size down. I went with an XS and it was PERFECT with still enough room to layer if I care to. Can't wait to receive the Green plaid that is on backorder. WONDERFUL!!! Get one before they are out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Yeti from Soft fabric, construction nice, poor plaid mismatc I had ordered the Black Stewart pattern. The fabric seemed a little thin for flannel, but the stitching seemed well. While the plaid pattern aligned well on the shirt front and the pocket on the shirt front, it did not match on the sides or back yoke at all. Ironically, the back yoke plaid pattern lined up perfectly with the back on the inside of the shirt. From the price perspective, I expected better. As an important point for a Scotch Plaid shirt is the plaid pattern itself, due to the plaid pattern not matching on most (sides, sleeves, back yoke) of the shirt, I would not feel comfortable wearing it in public. Returning the item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by trythison115 from Great quality but proportion doesn't hold up This shirt is great on first fit, but after one wash on delicate and even with air dry, this shirt shrunk in length. This is my main complaint overall with L.L. Bean clothing for women. I see this repeated in the comments as well, so you may know that shirts for women can't stand to lose any length at all as they already run short. After one wash, my sides show when arms are raised. This is supposed to be relaxed fit and sit low on the hip, but it doesn't hold after even the best washing care. I love this shirt's quality, but I hate that I can't wear it now unless I tuck it in and wear it under something else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by djd1950 from Almost, but not quite The fabric is substantial, the plaid is attractive, but the plaids do not match at any seams...not the sides, not the back yoke. In the lighter weight plaid shirt the plaid is set on the diagonal on the yoke as a design feature. This isn't a cheap shirt, and I would have paid a bit more and kept it if a little more fabric was used to match the seams. I don't keep things I don't love, so it's going back. As with others, I miss the women's chamois shirts which are no longer available...I don't want a chamois tunic or lined jacket and I will not settle for a man's shirt which doesn't fit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LLBeanLass from Substantial flannel I really like the substantial flannel of this shirt. Very nice, does not feel like a cheap flannel shirt. It does run large. I am 5"7", 130 lbs., and would wear the small. The medium works if I want a "big shirt" for comfy days around the house. HOWEVER, it really bothers me that the plaids are not matched on the sides. At the full price of this shirt, I would expect the plaids to be matched. 85% of both my husband's and my wardrobe is from LL Bean, and every plaid shirt we have ordered in the past has been matched. So, I sent both shirts back. I sincerely hope this can be corrected for next year. I will try again then, maybe, for the third time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by coldincalif from Black watch shirt Bought another one of these flannel shirts in Black Watch. The color is good and hides the fact that the plaids do not line up properly due to its dark colors. I bought this in a size 1X being I know that these shirts do shrink a bit and it works well as a shirt jacket sort of an item. It would be considered too large for many, but for myself, I like having the extra fabric and the overall look this gives. Hope to buy more of these in the future, especially IF the plaids match up to a point. Great flannel cloth from Portugal is very nice indeed! Warm and heavy is what one needs these days in the cold/wet pacific northwest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lovethebirds from Super soft winter shirt I have many of these shirts in various plaids, bought over the years. I love the fabric which washes and dries very nicely. I only have two comments. The space between the top two buttons is larger than I care for as I usually wear it buttoned to the top. It wants to gape outward and I find myself having to adjust it as it doesn't feel right. The other comment is that LLB doesn't make their corduroy pants or jeans with enough room at the waist to comfortably tuck in these flannel shirts, which of course are quite bulky. Sizing up doesn't look good because then the hips are too large. Anyone listening LLB?
