It could have been perfect...
This vest would be my favorite except one major flaw. The care tag on the vest says:
“BRUSH OFF MUD WHEN DRY
SPONGE WITH COLD WATER IF NEEDED
DO NOT USE SOAPS OR SOLVENTS”
If you follow the care instructions, you can never wash this vest. Over time skin oils will build up on the collar and start to smell. At one point or another in its long life, I’m going to have to disobey those instructions and see what it is about the vest that I ruined when I finally have to clean it.
I love everything else about this vest. I was shocked when I learned that a company I have always relied upon to provide the best in class gear would make such a poor materials choice.
Every thing about the vest except materials choice is 6 out of 5 stars. Whatever is used in the vest that prevents it from being washed is 0 out of 5 stars.

Received this as a gift. It's very warm, and looks great when worn over a thick wool sweater. It's dressier than most down vests, suitable for business casual settings or a date night. I do wish that the hand-warmer pockets were deeper, and the same goes for the patch pockets.

Design (especially pockets), choice of materials, and build quality are excellent. Only negative, the insulation is not geared to serious cold.

Perfect fit
I really love this vest. It is very built, warm and allows me to layer up or down for the Boston weather. It is ideal for temperatures above 20 degrees if you don’t spend much time outside. I pair it with a flannel LLBean shirt and a sweater or fleece jacket depending on outside weather conditions.

Best Vest Ever!
My wife bought this vest for me as a Christmas present 15 years ago. I wear it almost daily through the winter and it keeps me warm all day. It has never failed in any way, no rips or zipper problems.
