High quality, not thick wool but on par with your averagely heavy flannel shirt. Large inside drop pockets. The important thing to know is that like some other items, (Commando sweater, basic down jacket), an XL = a standard mens size L. This seems to have nothing to do with "slim" sizes, ect. and more with appeasing some notion of a modern hipster fit. Fine. But without accurate description, Bean costs us both money. Unless they actually enjoy returns.

I’ve had this shirt/jacket for about a month. Wool never disappoints. This is thick and warm, but breathes well. Quality is top notch. Fits well, I have large forearms and this xl fit nicely.

This shirt is really cool, I can't stop wearing it! It is definitely heavy and warm and a bit scratchy if you're not wearing something with long sleeves under it. Looks great.

Color me impressed
I first bought this in XXL which was really big by LL Bean standards. Was concerned that it did not come in a tall version but returned and got the XL which fits great and is long enough. A lot of great details on this jac-shirt like the extra material on the forearms, stitching and lining on yoke. Plus the side hand pockets are stitched all the way around so they don't sag inside the shirt. Quite possibly the best wool garment I have ever purchased at LL Bean.

Wool shirt is exceptionally well made and offers features not typically not found in men’s shirts. The shirt provides good warmth in cooler weather and allows good movement.

"Works" for me
I've been lusting over this shirt for months and finally purchased it on sale. It's beautiful, soft, and warm. I like that it has side pockets, but because they are on-seam it's a little awkward to get my hands in them. However, the side pockets have internal pouches that are deep, wide and hold everything I carry.

Great shirt, but more of a jacket
Got this on sale, thought it was a great deal. Got it today and the fit is great, the texture is awesome, and it seems like it'd be very cozy/comfy after a couple trips to the dry cleaner. But I will say it's more of a hoodie or very light jacket, than a shirt. It's fine for me, I really like it overall, but maybe another person wouldn't want a button down with pockets.
