Great hiking pants
These are great hiking pants! They dry quickly and they keep you warm or cool depending on the temperature. If I didn't have other pants, I would get them in different colors (I got the khaki).

Nice pants. Useless pockets!
These are really nice pants. I like the fabric. They fit well. I really want to love them. But the front pockets are SO SMALL. Without a place to stash my stuff when I go walking, they aren’t for me. I just have to keep searching.

Disappointed with the changes in design
I have been buying this pant for several years now in different colors. I am a bird watcher and massage therapist, and loved the easy fit and nicely-sized pockets so I could move freely no matter the activity.
I just purchased the Carbon Blue color (previously Navy) specifically to replace my previous ones for work. I am very disappointed with some of the changes, which may seem subtle, but are the reasons I am returning them.
To start with, they are a different material. I could probably live with that, although they do feel a little thin. I do really like that they still have a snap instead of button. But the real sticking point for me was they changed the pockets. The previous versions had two decent sized hand pockets, a zippered pocket on the front leg, and two additional zippered pockets on the back . That front zippered pocket was perfect for all kinds of things, such as my train pass, a few dollars, keys, anything you wanted secure and handy. In the new version, the front pockets are a little too shallow, and while it does give you two pockets (zippered and unzippered) on the rear side there is no zippered pocket on the front leg. While I appreciate that there is still a zippered pocket, putting it on my butt does not make it convenient for any of the things I use it for. So, I am sadly returning these and hoping the previous style returns down the road.
Ps Reading other comments, many people seemed to state the new version tends to run small. I did not actually try them on, when I opened them and realized the pockets were different that was a deal-breaker for me, so I can't comment on that specifically. It would not let me post my review unless I commented on FIT, so I chose Small based on other reviews, but as I stated above, I did not try them on.

nearly right
The fit is perfect, except for the gapping pockets (the rest of the fit makes them worth keeping). Especially for travel I would like the front pockets to zip (this would cure the gap, too!). Even around home, I have had my keys fall out of the front pocket! I would also like a pocket on the thigh (like yoga pants), to hold my phone. The pocket in back is not quite big enough, and not very comfortable for the phone.
Overall a great pant, especially for travel - comfortable and look nicely tailored so they dress up for evening.

I really liked everything about these pants except the size. I followed the advice of previous reviews and sized up but they were still too small and I had to return.

After reading reviews, I ordered normal size (14) and one size larger(16). Normal size was snug, but wearable. But the front pockets gaped. The larger size was a tad too baggy and the front pockets still gaped. The fabric is very thin. I returned them both.

I have bought Bean's trail pants in the past, but these are a slicker fabric and the pockets gape, even though they are not too small. Returning.
