I bought my first Boot Guard in 2006 in Pittsburgh PA out of curiosity. After 19 years it still has about 10% remaining on the tub. Originally used to keep my LLBean boot leather part conditioned, I also used it later on in almost all other leather conditioning protocols as I have taken on other leather products as well like belts and bags. I generously shared it with my friends, kids and even employees. I did ordered a new tub that arrived yesterday ( Aug 8, 2025) and I am sure this is going to be another few decades of useful leather conditioning. The tub is now different in design ( appears to be bigger than the old ) with palpable absence of previous fragrantly scent.

This stuff is like money in a jar
I think I’ve been using this stuff for about 15 years now, and I swear it pays for itself. I use it around once a year on all my leather shoes (maybe twice if it’s a pair that gets a lot of wear), and it always restores them to practically good as new. They look smooth and clean after application. This stuff will also darken any little scratches or signs of wear on your leather, so the overall look of the shoe is fresh and tidy. I also use Boot Guard on my leather bags to keep them in good condition, same result. A little goes a long way.
Note that it WILL darken lighter leathers, or nubuck leathers. I assume it will darken suede too, so be prepared for that. It soaks in deep into the leather to keep it protected, which will darken the overall look. It’s unscented, so it just smells like lanolin and bees wax. It’s also great for your hands if you get it on your skin.
I’ve had the same pair of Bean boots for 15 years - I bought my first pair and my first jar of Boot Guard at the same time. The boots still work great and look good as new, snd I haven’t treated them gently. If you’re someone who likes to buy things once and not have to replace them, you need a jar of this stuff in your arsenal.
