Our iconic Maine-made Boat and Tote, now in an open-top size for tote lovers! Similar to our Small tote, but taller, with handles that fit comfortably over your shoulder. Still crafted in Maine, one tote at a time.
Introduced as Bean's Ice Carrier way back in 1944, the Boat and Tote was billed as a bag made of builders' canvas for hauling ice "from car to ice chest." Today you can spot our iconic tote doing heavy lifting everywhere - from the grocery store to the beach, to the library and commuter train. Tested to hold up to 500 pounds, it'll carry more than you can carry. We promise.

Perfect size for me
Although I had to wait awhile for this because it was on back order, I’m glad I have it. It’s the perfect size for when I want to go somewhere and carry a water bottle. Because the bag is narrow, the water bottle doesn’t fall over sideways. And there is still room for a book, a journal and a snack box.

Absolutely love this tote bag
This is my first LL Bean canvas tote purchased from the company directly. I am no stranger to these bags as I've seen many people, and friends of mine carrying them, the quality and structure are amazing. I did not have to wait for this one, maybe because it's a blank tote, no color handles and no embroidery. I am still waiting for one with sky blue handles, I don't mind waiting a while, it's worth it. Now I'm hooked and will be ordering the mini totes with embroidery, I've seen many videos showing how they're styled and look so adorable.
