fabric thinner
This year's style is made with thinner cotton, which is a shame. For years I have counted on these for the cold days. I would wager to say this year's shirt does not fit anyone well--the turtleneck opening is narrower than it used to be (this shirt was always throat-compressing, but this year it is more so), the shoulders are built narrowly, and it is constructed for flat-chested folk. Typically this shirt shrinks a lot, so the turtleneck and shoulders and bust area could turn out to be very, very tight and binding after a few washes. It is hard to tell whom this will fit, but not the usual L.L. Bean customer.

Fabric is so thin
Love the shirt. I wear a small size and need banded cuffs with closefitting neck. I wear for warmth but this is no longer that shirt. They keep increasing the price but the quality is not here anymore. I don't like thin fabric. It's like wearing a long sleeve undershirt. It could be a nice shirt if you would use thick enough fabric to make it warm.
