Side mesh pockets are too short!
I am very sad that I cannot fit a normal sized water bottle on these side pockets. It falls out 100% of the time because they are too short and do not support the height. Very poor planning on this otherwise spacious.

Updated backpack
We updated an old backpack to this one for traveling purposes and the water bottle pocket! It's spacious, sturdy and practical. Will get another if this one ever wears out.

High quality and durability
As usual, LL Bean delivers with this sturdy backpack. We needed to upgrade to a larger pack once my son entered high school, and this pack is perfect. It's made really well and I expect it to last all 4 years. He previous pack (the next size down) is still in great shape after 3 years of middle school. My only gripe with both of these LL Bean school backpacks is the short, wimpy water bottle holders on the sides. Older kids use huge, tall water bottles nowadays and these little side pockets do not hold them at all. They just fall right out, so they have to put the water bottles inside the already stuffed packs and risk spills. No good. Plus the mesh is flimsy and has torn several times over. Please make these side pockets longer and with better material on all of these school packs meant for older kids.
