Major design flaw still not fixed after 20 years
I can't predict the future, but it looks like it will last either 2 or 17 years depending on whether or not I bother to remanufacture it. You still haven't fixed its original problem, which you could do with minimal effort. I first got one of these coats around 2004 or 2005, and it lasted only around 2 or 3 years. After wearing it for just a few winters,some of the front buttons pulled off. Ordinarily that would not have been a problem. I can sew buttons back on if there's fabric to sew them onto. But when the buttons pulled off, they pulled a hole in the fabric, leaving nothing to sew the buttons onto. Since you hadn't repealed your lifetime warranty, and because I felt a coat like that should last more than 2 or 3 years, I returned it for a replacement. I try to not abuse policies like that, and it's the only time in the 51 years I've dealt with LL Bean that I've ever used the lifetime replacement warranty. When I got the replacement, I removed the front buttons one by one and sewed them back on, but with a small backing button on the back of the fabric in addition to the button on the front. It should have been manufactured that way in the first place. Most reputable manufacturers do that. The replacement coat lasted from 2007 to 2026, by which time it had loose and frayed threads from normal wear and tear. The buttonholes on the other side of the coat were severely worn from normal use, but the fabric on the other side that holds the buttons had been so protected that after 19 years of wear, that fabric was in as good shape as when it was new. I just bought today's version of that coat to replace the worn out one, and I see you're still making it without backing buttons. So unless I remanufacture it with backing buttons, I expect it will only last a few years. I bought it because I'm already familiar with the design and I know what I need to do to make it last or 2 decades. If I didn't know, it would have lasted just long enough or your 1 year warranty to no longer apply, and then I'd need a new one. That's why LL Bean is no longer the first place I look nowadays for the sort of items you sell. It used to be my first stop, but now it's not even in the top ten! There are many other ways you could have solved the warranty abuse problem. Your choice to solve it in a way that was guaranteed to drive long-term loyal customers away is probably among the top 5 stupidest corporate decisions in history. It deserves to be a textbook business school case on what NOT to do. I'd guess it probably is.

Great coat, which I could buy the shell separately
But this after having one for 20+ years nd it finally wore out. Would like to have just bought the outer coat and reuse the inner liner . I think this should be offered as then I could have multiple outer colors with the same liner which does not get the wear and tear. Overall and completely enjoyed the coat .
