Not a well-designed coat
Pros: This coat was waterproof and warm.
Cons: There are so many. (1) There is no storm flap. I don't know what that means in a storm (it wasn't raining or snowing when I tried the coat), but it does mean that there is no way to snap (or velcro) the coat closed if you don't want to take the time to zip it up. (2) The zipper is a one-way zipper (can't be unzipped from the bottom), so you have to unzip the whole coat if you need to get to your pants pocket. (3) There is no inside pocket. (4) The new style of hood adjustment is for the birds. Instead of a velcro strap that pulls the visor back, there is now a bungee that pulls the sides of the hood back (ear to ear, instead of top of head to nape of neck). If the reason you wanted to adjust the hood was that it was too big and fell over your eyes, this adjustment system doesn't help: your cheeks are exposed, but the hood is still falling over your eyes. (5) The sleeves of the inside jacket are tacked to the shell at the cuff, which keeps them from pulling out of the shell when you pull your arms out, but it doesn't keep them from pushing beyond the shell when you put your arm into the coat, so you end up having to stuff the inner sleeves back into the shell sleeves. I'm a regular LL Bean shopper and have (and love) a lot of their clothes, but I returned this coat: it is missing a lot of necessary features.

Love this 3-in-1
I normally don't like 3-in-1 jackets but was traveling last year and needed the flexibility. There's something about this jacket. I love that the windbreaker fits large so you can pair it with a bulky sweater. The inner jacket looks wonderful on its own too. Together they're exceptionally warm -- can handle winter in Chicago -- and don't make you look huge. LL Bean, please offer this in solid dark blue and some more standard fall and winter colors!
