Not for carpeted stairs
These treads moved around on our carpeted stairs. Not dangerous, as they move only a little each time you step on them. However, you will find yourself having to adjust them constantly.

They stay in place and make my stairs safer
My basement stairs in my old house are a bit steeper than normal, and feel a bit perilous and slippery. I appreciate that these mats stay in place despite multiple trips up and down the stairs each day, and make my hardwood stairs feel safer.
