Surprisingly great
After reading the reviews I was hesitant to buy these shorts for hiking and backpacking. I’m 5’5, 130 pounds and usually wear a small, but I got these in a medium. These shorts are great quality and very comfortable for being active. The waistband does not stretch a ton, but with a little tug easily slides over my hips. I highly recommend these shorts!

Minimal strectch in the waist.
I bought these in an extra small loved everything about the fit except the waistband. It has an internal drawstring but there is almost no stretch in the waist. I then purchased these in a small and the legs were huge and the waist band was not different, felt the same as the extra small. I ended up sending the small back and keeping the extra small since they fit my legs better.
