Great field coat
This is the second one that I've owned. The first one lasted almost 40 years.Maybe I'm imagining things, but the new field coat's saddle color seems a bit washed out and not as yellow as my original coat and the cuffs and collar seem to be a darker green. Perhaps it's just a different dye that is being used now.Other than that, great field coat for town and country. I recommend adding extra thread to the buttons.

Nice coat and a good fit with ill-designed pockets
I read through all the comments, so I had a bit of trepidation about the quality. All the buttons are securely attached and the stitching seems secure.
It fits true to size and there is sufficient room in the shoulders to raise your arms. I had tried another version of this coat and the shoulders were way too tight. I'm glad to see that this has been corrected.
I have to wonder who designed the pockets. The zippered pocket, without a gusset, on the left front is so small that you can't really fit much more than a credit card and I have no reason to carry that there. I can't fit my wallet or my keys comfortably. The biggest question is why is there not an inside pocket? Every other coat that I have ordered from L.L.Bean over the last 30 years has had an inside pocket either at the breast level or closer to the waist. The absence of this pocket is what keeps the jacket from being truly useful.
The outside pockets are split into two sections. The open section, I assume, is for your hands to shield them from the wind, but they're at such an odd height and angle that it's never comfortable, so I don't use them. The lower pocket, which has a flap, is so small that I can just barely fit my glove inside. It would have been a lot better if there had just been one pocket on each side with either a snap or a flap so you could stick things like your cell phone or your wallet and not be afraid that it's going to fall out.
It is a perfect weight for 45 to 60 degree weather. I assume I could put something like a PrimaLoft vest underneath and wear it a bit longer in colder weather, but that's not why I purchased it.
Overall, a very nice coat, well made, with poorly designed pockets. I should note that I purchased a large tall, but the drop down for size doesn't allow you to select that, it's missing.
