Why We Love It
We start with premium 850 down, which provides more warmth for its weight, and then treat it with revolutionary DownTek that allows our jackets do what many others can’t – keep you warm, even in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary down that soaks up moisture, ours absorbs 33% less moisture and dries 66% faster so it stays light, lofty and warm. On the outside, the game-changing Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for exceptional durability.
Fabric & Care
- 850-fill-power goose down is one of the highest on the market, delivering more warmth for weight.
- Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for durability and weather-resistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by camsprite from Best winter jacket ever Pulling this slim, almost weightless item out of its package, I thought, no way will this keep me warm through a Maine winter. In fact, though, it's incredibly warm--even for someone like me, who tends to be cold--and it's easy to wear over another warming layer if you want to be extra-sure. I love how light and unbulky the jacket is and how smoothly it slips on over a sweater. I have a very small frame that is sometimes hard to fit, but the XS petite fits like a dream. Wonderful hood, too, that doesn't dig into your neck or chin when you run the zipper all the way up. Tempted to buy another in a different color!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Warm,Waterproof, really fits nicely. Hood is great! Love this jacket! I am in the wet rainy northwest and this is the perfect lightweight but warm jacket. The fit is quite good and I can wear sweaters or fleece under it. It has proven it's waterproof qualities on my morning walks in pouring rain or waiting at the train station. Have I mentioned how much I like the design of the hood? No? Well it's so nice because it does not block my peripheral vision and I can wear a hat under it too. I anticipate wearing it for cross country skiing, football and soccer games, and hiking. I like it so much that I splurged and bought it in blue too. Thanks LL for a great all around jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Yeti from OK for a Fall Jacket, but not Winter wear The jacket is soft, lightweight, and pretty (I got the Plum Wine color). Me: 5'2", 110 lbs. I ordered a medium, and I like the fit. To test how well the jacket would keep me warm, I wore it in dry, non-windy weather that was 15 degrees F. I wore it with thermal underwear and a sweatshirt. Still, I felt chilled. Not freezing, but not comfortably warm either. The LLBean rating of 'Warmest: to -30 degrees' is an exaggeration. The fabric seems to be on the thin side. So, I don't know how well it will hold up over time. I like the jacket. This is a light down jacket that I'll wear for fall dog walks and running errands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Atlantacustomer from Not warm There is no way this jacket would keep someone warm at -30 as the LL Bean write-up suggests. I ordered this jacket based on the product description, because I was looking for a warm winter coat. After two months of winter wear, I have found that at any temperature below 40, this coat is insufficient and leaves me feeling cold. I can't imagine why LL Bean chooses to promote this coat as a good option for freezing and sub-zero temperatures. It feels more equivalent to a heavy fleece or a lined wind breaker to me. It is satisfactory for wearing at 40-50 degree temperatures, but not for true winter weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by QuincyGirl90277 from Kept Me Warm & Dry My mom sent this jacket out to me for a trip to Denver for a football game. Under it I had many layers and the jacket itself kept me well insulated. Just this past week I wore it here in California on a rare cold and rainy night and I was quite surprised at how dry it kept me as well as how quickly the jacket dried. Super impressed. I'm a little concerned about some thread pulls on the sleeves; when the threads pull out, the sleeves become a whole piece of fabric instead of the 'quilted' look. There were several loose threads that I'll cut from now on. But overall, the performance of this jacket has been exemplary.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sara0418 from Big Disappointment I so, so, so wanted to love this jacket. I love the styling, the color, the weight; everything about it except it is not warm at all. I knew it was light weight, but I was surprised at just how lightweight it really is. It is very thin and seems as if someone forgot to put any insulation in it. On a windy day the wind goes right through the jacket which is a deal breaker for me. Even with a sweater or fleece underneath it just does not keep the cold out. After 1 wearing the insulation is sticking out of the stitching. As I said above, I so wanted to love this jacket, but alas, I am sending it back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Antero from Not that warm; tight fit I ordered this jacket for two reasons: the attached hood and the 850 fill. The hood is well designed and fits well. As others have said, this jacket can't keep you warm at the -30 rating temperature. First of all, LL Bean's idea of a midweight layer qualifies as light to me. I tried it with a crew neck long underwear top and cotton turtleneck. At 10 degrees with a light breeze, it was not warm. I couldn't add a polartec top or a sweater because the fit across the shoulder blades is too tight. I could barely move my arms with the addition of thicker layer. I thought the whole point was to reduce bulk, but if the jacket isn't warm enough, even if it were roomy enough to add a heavy layer, it doesn't do the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TACgramma from heavy weight warmth in a lightweight package Bought this specifically with backpacking in mind but am using it now for our holiday travels to Alaska. While the temps have been above 30 degrees it has kept me amazingly warm with only a long sleeve shirt underneath. Seems true to size...I ordered a medium for my 5'6" 145 lb frame...and I still have room for a medium weight sweater or fleece underneath. Since I have only had it a week I cannot speak about it's durability. Outer fabric (I have the brilliant blue) is very thin showing some of the darker down inside but that doesn't bother me. So far, I am very happy with this coat an look forward to many hours of warmth ahead!
