Rated 4 out of 5 by Weathamane from Fantastic Day pack I am very happy about this pack. I've used twice now, once for a day hike and one overnight stay in the woods. It has many deep pockets to store things and it being water proof is a huge plus. I went and bought a cheap platypus to put it in it and it works perfectly. My only complaint, which is more of a question, is why one of the side pockets goes all the way through. It should be closed in like the other side for storage of a second drink. While this is kind of a nuisance, the pack itself is amazing! One could easily buckle on enough gear to do a 1 or 2 night trip if you pack it right. I'll likely buy another for holidays gifts for my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MEtracker from Excellent design, special features, great value ! The Maine Warden Day Pack is very well designed and has features seldom found in a day pack. There's more than enough room for all your equipment / supplies. Special features such as the waterproof zipper to keep your contents dry during a sudden rain storm. The soft lined pocket to keep your compass, electronics and other items safe. The design that lets you safely carry a camp axe, fly rod, or folding saw is a handy feature. There is even a whistle built into the buckle on the chest strap... a great feature if you ever need to signal help. The medium / large pack is very comfortable to wear for extended periods, and fits my 6'4" frame nicely. Another product with the quality I've come to expect from L.L. Bean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by livininnj from Good but could be great. This is a good pack that needs a few minor changes to make it a great pack. I agree with two modifications that have already been mentioned in other reviews which are to make the main section zippered opening wider and make it possible to close the bottom side pass through pocket (maybe a draw string?). That being said, my main issue and the reason I did not keep this pack is because of the back panel. The raised mesh panels are in the center of the pack and sit right on your spine and cause it to be uncomfortable with any type of load. Fix these issues and I would definitely buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by asciarra19 from A trail worker's best friend. I worked with the Maine Conservation Corps for the summer and my dad bought me this backpack the week before I began. I used it on every day of our trail work, which is rain or shine. I just wish it had a hidden rain cover, but I appreciate it being rain resistant. It fits plenty of water, snack bags or tupperware containers, rain coat, and any tools that I could fit in the bag. The side pocket that is open at the bottom was good for trail work when carrying small hammers or other tools, but I probably won't have any use for it during my time in college. I'm glad there are a few small pockets as well to organize things like chapstick or a few more pencils.

Rated 5 out of 5 by goldenroadbiker from Great pack for a volunteer park ranger! I bought this for doing volunteer patrols in Colorado. after using it for about two months I am very happy with it. It is lightweight, comfortable, fits well, and most of all has compartments in all the right places. I really like the reinforced waterproof bottom as I am always taking my pack off to do other things. If you do a lot of day hikes or just want a good, solid pack for traveling or getting around town this would be a good fit for you. P.S. it will hold a laptop with no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jaynathan from Room to spare and more What a great pack! Lots of room, pockets and compartments for gear and stuff. Even fully loaded the pack is very comfortable to sling and carry for hours. Tough and durable. The waterproof bottom is great for us from the Northeast (still digging out from all the snow). Rested the pack for an hour in the snow and my gear inside remained dry. Straps are comfortable and easy to adjust. Like Paul Revere I have gone screaming into the Boston night yelling for everyone to "GO TO LL BEAN AND BUY THIS PACK!"

Rated 4 out of 5 by Northbound92 from Maine Warden Day Pack Great pack with great features. I'm an avid hiker and AT thru hiker. The only addition I would make is a more substantial hip belt rather than just a strap. Just received mine from backorder last week and only have about 20 miles on it, but the features, as advertised, are outstanding on this well priced pack. I see the MED/LG are now completely sold out. I hope they get more in stock as I would buy another one for my daughter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sadie5200 from Love this Backpack For $99.00 I think this is a great deal. I'm an occasional hiker, 3-4 times a month, and really like this backpack. Its got plenty of pockets, zippers and ample room for larger items in the main compartment. Like the fact it has the small zipper and lining for my phone. camera etc. The one thing that could be an improvement is that only one side packet is made for a water bottle while the other is open bottom. I understand this was made for an axe or fishing pole but maybe it would have been good to add one extra cord on the bottom to close it up to use as bottom holder. Other than that, I love it. Oh yeh, I'm a big fan of Northwoods Law so the Maine Wildlife Log is pretty cool too!
