Kids' Ultralight 650 Down Jacket is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 124.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warning - Fragile Material! I almost never write reviews, but I am so unhappy and upset that I had to! The material on this jacket is so thin and does not hold up to a normal kid. This was a gift to my son at Christmas, but today it got stuck in the zipper on his backpack. There is a huge hole! I called and it was suggested I use some sort of tape over it! Or, I can mail it back, and in 4 weeks find out whether or not LL Bean will refund or replace it. Meanwhile, it is 9 degrees here in mid-February! His prior down jacket from LL Bean has held up beautifully! I had been a loyal Bean customer for myself and my son, but if a $149 jacket cannot stand up to a 3rd grader, and LL Bean won't stand behind its products, then I doubt I will ever purchase from them again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Surprised Needs a stronger outer fabric My daughter bought this jacket for my grandson last year. We like that it is warm, yet light enough to be not to be constricting. We live in a moderate climate so it isn't worn every day during the winter. The jacket shed alot of feathers through the fabric and seams during the first year and being LLBean that surprised me. He was able to wear it into this season, but managed to catch it on something recently which left a small tear in the fabric. My attempts to repair it were very frustrating as the fabric is very fragile and the needle caught on feathers throughout the process. The concept of the light down coat is wonderful, but the fabric quality needs to be improved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight winter coat that works great I ordered the 6-7 for my son who just turned 6 last week and it's too big. I also ordered the Warm Up Insulated jacket for him in the same size and that too was a bit big on him, albeit smaller than the Ultralight 650. My son is on the smaller side and thin (43" and not even 40 lbs.) so I'm sure that plays into it but I would still say just order your standard size. Color and quality are first rate, typical LL Bean. I decided to keep it for next year and order another jacket a size down. He may even get 2 more winters out of it, he's swimming in it! I reordered a 5-6 in a different color and I'm certain it will fit well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Alas, just not durable I read the many reviews saying that the jacket tore after a few wears, but I bought it anyway because my 10 year old son is usually very easy on his clothes. Well, we were no exception. The jacket tore in several places after a couple of weeks with down feathers flying everywhere. Fortunately, LL bean stands behind their products so I am sure returning it will not be an issue. We are going to try the other down jacket with the fleece on the inside. It looks a little warmer as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really wanted to like it...... I bought this jacket in the large and x-large for my 11 year old daughter. She's about 5'1 and 90 lbs. The sleeves in the large were too short, and while the x-large fit in the sleeves, we ended up returning it because of the super boxy fit. It is definitely not cut for what I would consider an athletic type build, and would look even worse on a more slender child. There was enough room sticking out the sides and back for another kid to fit inside. I loved the color and 650 down- it looked like it would be very warm, it just wasn't a fit for us.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I purchased two of these for my children ages 4 & 6. I really loved last seasons version so I got them again. Unfortunately, this seasons seems to be much cheaper quality as they jackets got torn once at the beginning of winter and now one of them has been torn AGAIN! I buy generally LLBean because of the quality.....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good for a few months For my 4 year old this fit perfect, was great for any of the ever changing VT weather, kept him warm and looked cute to boot. But here we are 4 months later and it’s got a hole which has lost much of the puff on part of the jacket and tiny little holes throughout, making me wonder how much longer it’s going to last. Kind of disappointing being last years jacket went two winters with no holes at all which was a similar 3T version.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from soft but tears readily My daughter loves this down jacket and finds it cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately the "ultralight" shell material is somewhat delicate and a small tear in the upper arm (not along a seam) appeared and started leaking feathers within a week of purchase. LLBean customer service nicely offered us a new jacket.
