    Why We Love It
Built to protect clothes and gear on the way to the next adventure, our collection was designed with the outdoors in mind. We chose a rugged, weather-resistant fabric that's ideal for everything from car camping to cross-country flights. We also moved the backpack straps from bottom to top, so it's easy to carry as a duffle or pack - a design that keeps the load closer to your back for added comfort. Our founder, Leon Leonwood Bean, first introduced this practical strap idea back in 1933.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I ordered the 40L some time back and it proved a bit too compact for blazers and some hiking gear, so I ordered the 60L. It is so much more spacious, but if not stuffed to the brim, it will squish into an overhead bin just fine, depending on the airline. The materials are top notch. I love how they are water and stain proof because traveling is often dirty and you can disinfect and wipe this clean very easy. Its constructed so well, the only reason I will buy a new one is out of want, not need. The strap feature is cool and wearing it like a backpack is a nice option when walking long distances in the airport. the handles on the side make it a grab n go bag. I ordered the orange because it was on sale, but the color is awesome. Its not screaming orange, but like a rust orange. very unique and a nice security measure because you will be able to recognize it easy. High quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bag Thoroughly researched this purchase decision. Hands on with almost a dozen options. Felt like most were overpriced or short on quality. Ended up purchasing this sight unseen. LLBean you need a Southern California store. And I’m even more impressed with the bag than I was hoping. Very good materials, construction, and design. So long as it holds up and I expect it will, this is by far the best adventure bag on the market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shoulder Straps Issue The bag is the perfect size, but the handles are set up to carry like a brief case. Regular handles, like the larger bags have, would make it better. Also, the shoulder straps aren't adjustable at one end and I'm going to have to pay a seamstress to set it up to work the way a backpack is intended to be carried. I wish I had examined it more closely before removing the tags! If so, I would have returned the item. :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bag Best travel bag I’ve owned! I specifically wanted a duffle, I love the flexibility/ability to stuff it in places, overhead compartments, between car seats, etc. This material is awesome and holds up well, I have multiple ways to carry it (backpack style, crossbody, handles, you name it.) The best part is all the useful compartments! My friend had a similar bag from a different company and it only has one additional zipper compartment and costs way more. I have so many useful storage areas for easy access to kindle, toothbrush/paste, chargers, chapsticks... you get the idea. BUT the best part is that one of the side zippers has a large storage area completely enclosed that extends into the main Compartment for expansion as necessary and I can separate all my clean and dirty clothes for any extended trip and I absolutely LOVE it. I always use it as my shoe compartment and easily fits my hiking shoes and a pair of sandals along with dirty clothes as necessary. Every time I use it I brag about how much I love this bag and my husband who is an airline pilot and has had a plethora of bags over the years now wants to buy one for travel. Thanks LL Bean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Back strap position too wide The back strap hooks position the strap so that it is on the outside part of my shoulder. The straps slide off of my shoulder when walking. Did you test this feature? Most of your backpacks locate the top of the strap closer to the center. The main reason that I purchased this duffel was due to the feature about the position of the straps for added comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged, high-quality, well-organized duffle This is the best duffle bag we've ever bought hands down and our favorite L.L. Bean bag! We have used L.L. Bean bags for the past 2+ decades and have never been disappointed in the quality. They continue to keep taking abuse and holding up incredibly well. This bag is even more rugged and we love the more useable shape and interior organization compared to our other L.L. Bean duffle bags. It is very rugged, durable, and amazingly water-resistant. The inner organization is very handy and helps keep gear organized. The zippers are high quality and the material is very resistant to tears and soiling. It can fit a surprising amount of gear thanks to its mostly square shape - perfect for airline travel with almost no wasted space, and also easier to carry than a rounder duffle bag. Contrary to what some reviews mentioned, the top portion of the shoulder straps above the shoulder pads are fully adjustable, once you know how they are supposed to connect to the bag. When we first got this, we were stymied by the shoulder straps, which seemed ridiculously long at the top, causing the bag to hang too low...until we looked more closely at the close-up picture on the website of the upper strap connection and realized they are completely adjustable not only at the bottom below the shoulder padding, but also at the top between the padding and the bag! The upper end of each strap is threaded through the corresponding loops on the bag, then clipped into one of the horizontal webbing straps on the padded shoulder harness, depending on the desired length. This makes it totally adjustable for different heights! We included a picture showing how thes straps can be adjusted differently for different height people (one strap is at the longest height, one at a medium height). It would have been very helpful if L.L. Bean had included instructions for this since it is not the usual way shoulder straps connect on convertible bags and customers can miss the non-intuitive shoulder strap setup and think that this bag makes a terrible backpack. We use the 40L bag for carry-on travel and the larger bags for wilderness medical and climbing gear. These bags are definitely worth the price, having such high quality materials, great shape, good inner organization, and convertibility into a backpack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did the job I am 5'2" and the backpack straps did not work for me. The padded part of the straps are not adjustable so the backpack hung way down on my rear end! We needed soft sided, easy to carry luggage for a sailing trip. They worked - I wouldn't say they blew me away. I bought the 40L but haven't used it so I'll be sending it back for the same reason.
