Rated 1 out of 5 by cps2312 from Not the same I have purchased ragg socks of one kind or another from LL Bean for the last 50 years. These new ones all have holes in the heels already after less than a dozen outings. These last few pairs I bought had to be an XL since the large ones I bought last year shrank so much they were like children's socks-not at all like the great ones I used to get. Also I am very disappointed that the cotton version of these has been discontinued. Sure I could send all these back but I live in England and it costs so much to send them and then I often have to pay extra taxes and duty. Just very sad not to be able to get my old favourite daily wear socks...

Rated 2 out of 5 by Cybele from Not enough sock! I bought many pairs of these socks all in size Extra Large as gifts for my large footed family. I also purchased some in the same size for myself. They have been cursed by the Lycra fairy! Yes each sock is meant to be stretched from only a few inches long to the size of your foot! this is tolerable when actively running about, but cramp inducing agony ir you want to relax in a chilly house after exercise. If these are smushing my modestly size feet, I don't know how the size twelve and up family members even get them on.There is too much tight stretch and not enough wool. Yes they are wooly, but not mammoth even in extra large!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MmpmS from Sure do need larger size! ! ! ! My Shoe--Size 9M--Woman. Sales Rep said Size M. Product Specialist said Size M. Reviews said "Buy L-A-R-G-E-R". I compromised and ordered Size "L." Just received them, appear as though they will be toasty warm when Old Man Winter is in the depths of his strength, HOWEVER, when washed, since they are wool, they are going to shrink even if gently washed SO back to LLBean they go for an XL size--grateful that LLBean is paying to and from shipping charges so all I am involved in is the time spent sending them back and of course initially being disappointed because they aren't a "one-time" effort purchase. LLBean--GOOD PEOPLE! !

Rated 3 out of 5 by eyesAb1 from Sizing Problem The socks are the right color, and I like the fact that they’re thick. Good product... except the sizing is all wrong. I’m 5‘6” and take a size 8 shoe. The first time I ordered I asked for medium. They started out tight, shrunk a bit and ended up too tight. Next time I ordered large and they too ended up too tight. Finally I got extra large. Extra large for someone my size? I never before ordered any kind of clothing in extra large. These look like they’ll work, and that’s good, but the last time I put on a pair of large my back went out. It’s still out. It would be nice if other people don’t have to go through this much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MaineGrlinCA from Review for Merino Wool Ragg Sock, 10" Two-Pack I love these socks. I buy them in an XL (I'm female and wear size 7.5 shoe). I mainly wear them around the house because my feet are always cold. I get XL, because after washing, they obviously shrink a bit. These socks are way too thick for me to wear w/ any pair of shoes I own.. Only good for indoor use or use with slightly oversized rain/snow boots in cold weather. As a kid, I used to wear these w/ my beans boots to shovel snow. Now I'm in CA, I just wear them around the house to keep my piggies warm. They are not itchy at all, and they last a long time, even with frequent washings. Highly recommend. Only wish they'd start making them in some new colors, or bring back the solid red and navy colors.

Rated 2 out of 5 by CaptainRogers from NEW VERSION OF RAGG WOOL SOCKS I'm glad to see made in the USA but these socks are a poor example of what Bean's Ragg Wool socks used to be. I have some socks that are 20 years old including 1 pair they don't sell anymore that comes most of the way up your calf. Those are much thicker and after that amount of time are almost like new. The new one's myself and my wife bought are much thinner than the old. They are not 12" and you'd better order a size lager or two than normal. We bought a pair of brown Ragg Wool socks a year or two ago and they were almost as good as my old ones. Until they make a change back to the old Ragg wool socks, get it right on the sizing and height, I could not recommend buying

Rated 5 out of 5 by Litt from Wonderful socks! I put these in the washer (inside out, cold water) and dryer (tumble dry, low), and they did not shrink at all. This is great, because I LOVE these thick socks. They are not itchy at all (and I am usually very sensitive to wool), and just encompass my foot and leg in a secure warmth that feels massage-like. The 12" is a perfect length. Nicely made too. Bought three more pairs because can't be without them. One oddity: I wear a size 10 shoe, and I needed an X-large in these. I wonder why they make them so small. Thank goodness I read the other reviews and knew to size up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by chickensoup from Not durable I have owned probably many many pairs of these socks in rag grey over the past twenty or thirty years. I have found that they are sturdy, warm and comfortable socks and they are my go to everyday socks around the house. HOWEVER the last batch I have owned and purchased over the past 3 to 5 years wear out quickly at the heel and I have discarded most of them. I am referring to the grey rags. I have replaced them with the charcoal rags which have not so far worn their heels out, but are not as soft and comfortable as the grey rags. I notice that the grey rags are not being replaced. I have been waiting to order fresh ones since before Christmas.
