Rated 3 out of 5 by Elvisina from Nice, but the side pockets could be larger I needed something that will allow me to safely stow a smart phone when we're at amusement parks and other places where carrying a purse isn't convenient. These shorts work, but it's a tight squeeze. If the side pockets were just a centimeter larger vertically, they would be perfect. My husband never has this problem because manufacturers realize that men don't carry purses and they design clothing accordingly. I think many women would appreciate having larger zippered pockets because carrying a bag during active pursuits can be annoying. Also, having a key clip in one of the front pockets would be handy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by pduz from Vista Trekking Shorts I am 63, have a stickish figure (small butt), am 5' 1" and weigh 112 pounds. I'm an outdoor enthusiast and am always looking for the "perfect" shorts. That being said, these shorts came very close. The overall fit was great and the pockets accommodate my iPhone X in addition to other small items. My only problem was the size of the leg opening (my legs are average, not thin, not big) and I found the leg openings on these shorts to be too baggy. I would recommend these shorts if you have a bit larger thighs or if you don't mind a really roomy leg opening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MEvacationer from True Cargo shorts with great pockets and fit I bought two pair of the Vista Trekking pants for a recent trip to Europe, and liked them so much I bought the shorts when I came back. They are very comfortable and, very important, have pockets big enough for my phone. Two diagonal pockets in front, two zippered side pockets big enough for a phone or wallet, and two zippered back pockets. I searched very hard for pants/shorts with adequate pockets. Most women's pants these days, even "cargo pants" have tiny pockets that I can barely get two fingers in, or if open my phone falls out when I sit down. Not secure and ridiculous. Again -- love these pants, fit well, are comfortable and have secure storage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by outdoorlife888 from Don't understand the high reviews Based on the great reviews I was looking forward to wearing these shorts and long pants for hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. The fabric is SUPER light weight - in fact pretty unsubstantial, more like lingerie!! Nothing between me and a rock :) Also, when I'm hiking etc, I'm working hard - and sweating. This fabric shows wet pretty dramatically. I got the shorts in granite, the long pants in sandstone - both had that problem. The waistband is too big, so they slip down. I think the entire garment would stretch significantly with any use. I'm 5'4", 138 lbs, active. They are going back!

Rated 2 out of 5 by MtHiker from Huge Waist - sent them back They're going back. Huge waist. Admittedly my hips are bigger proportionally to my waist, but these shorts are unusually big in the waist. If they had removed 8 or 9 inches from the waist and I still would have had room to spare. Just for a framework, I am about 5'4", 125 lbs and wear a size 10 relaxed fit Double L jean. They are just about perfect everywhere. If you are built similar to a telephone pole; i.e., waist and hips almost the same, these would probably work just fine (no offense intended). I really liked the design. The fabric is thin and lightweight. The shorts had a very comfortable feel too them. I'm sure if the fit had been designed for a women with some hips, I really would have loved them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by femalebiker from Good BUT.... I love the way these fit and look. I also like the feel of the lightweight fabric and it is also quite cool. However, like many other reviewers have noted, the fabric does pile or pull. The insides have started to wear a bit after 4 wearings simply due to some leg stubble (a little embarrassing but the truth and I have never had that problem with any other shorts). I was going to order another pair but decided to hold off and wait to see if the outside of the fabric starts to be affected by the wear I see on the inside. For an expensive pair of shorts, this was not what I expected.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tysa from Wide and Wimpy First, as many have said, the sizing is off; I've returned mine for one size smaller so they won't fall off. Second, while I love that the material is light and dries quickly, I wish it were tougher! After light wear, two have "pulled" spots (a loop or more of thread sticking out); one, an entire "pulled" strip. I'm still buying them because I don't know where to get something tougher that fits. Seems to me that LLBean should have it right if anyone does! And yes, I've noticed that the mens shorts are light and still tough. PLEASE stop offering women cheaper quality clothes!!! (p.s. I'd also like to order my pants like men do, by waist and length, but nooooo....) Been with you for years; plan to stick around :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by LeaP from Snagged much too easy :( I absolutely loved these shorts. L O V E D. I wore them for a day before going on a rafting trip to make sure they didn't stretch out too much throughout the day. They do stretch a bit, so I returned and got 2 at a smaller size. I wore each one day of rafting and they both caught snags. Ughh. They just aren't sturdy enough for trekking in the great outdoors. I would buy them as everyday or traveling shorts. I even bought the pants. Which I love also. I didn't wear those other than around town so no snag issues there but I am sure if they were out hiking I would say snagging was an issue.
