Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, but elbows wear out I like these shirts. They're comfortable and appropriate for a wide variety of occasions, but holes form at the elbows long before the remainder of the shirt wears out. Over the last 5 years or so, I've owned 12 to 13 and all but the last three most recently purchased have holes at the elbows, usually appearing at 6 months or so. I'm an office worker (so no outrageous wear and tear), and no other shirts (e.g., oxfords) have given me this problem. I don't need any more odd looking short sleeve shirts -- and these shirts are not inexpensive. Is it wishful thinking that the elbow region might be reinforced in the future?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not "sunwashed canvas" anymore What a disappointment. I own eight or nine of these shirts in every color collected over the past twelve or so years (and inherited from my father, whom I bought them for as well) and I wear them to work and on the weekends. When I needed to move two more into the weekend collection because they had started to fray, I reordered and recived shirts made of polished Oxford cloth half the weight but the same cut. Not the same shirt by any means, so it should not be called sunwashed canvas. Very disappointing to be mislead by an LL Bean ad, and to not be able to get my favorite shirt anymore.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Color This was one of my absolute favorite shirts. Until they changed the sandstone to a beige. I ordered a few more thinking I had pushed the wrong button for color but low and behold they just flat changed the color. I even went to the Big Store when I happened to be back in Maine and a gal told me they just change it up sometimes. Even the sandstone shirts at the big store were beige. I want my color back!!! That said. I will still order a few of the other colors because they have not changed them and the shirt wears well and is comfortable. Have had some trouble with buttons falling off but I can fix that. Just irritating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good casual shirt I like these shirts as the weather turns cooler. I like the weight and feel of the material. For me it fills in between a light regular cotton shirt and a flannel one. The fit is as spot on as the rest of the LL Bean line. It does require a little more care out of the dryer (hang it up soon) as this is not a wrinkle-free fabric. But that is okay with me, I only wear them as casual shirts. The shirts come with a tag that warns you to wash before first wearing as the dyes can come off on your other clothes, and they do mean it. My white undershirt did get a little bit of dye on it, but again if I was that picky I would have washed it first.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Shirts Rock! Based purely on the many positive reviews, esp those commenting on appearance out of the wash, I opted in for two of these two weeks ago. I'm a big guy at 6'3" 240# and wear XXL/Tall... Wife states that these look great on me, plus they feel great as well... I just placed an order for two more. These are seriously great shirts... One caution: I read "canvas" and as a sailor I had my own conception of what I thought this would mean in a shirt, i.e. fairly heavy duty. They are not that at all, but certainly heavier than chambray or denim. I'd call them a light-medium weight, and suitable for three season wear on their own easily. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buttons Poorly Sewn On I have purchased many of these shirts over the past 25 years or so. They fit well, wear well and look fine. In the past I would have given these shirts a 4 or 5 star rating. But... The last half dozen shirts of this style I have bought in the last 3-4 years have had poorly sewn buttons. Almost every one of these recently purchased shirts has had one or more buttons fall off, mostly from the cuffs. What is especially annoying is the "Additional Features" section for this item that reads "Rugged buttons are carefully stitched to stay put." Sorry. They used to be, but aren't now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Traditional is not traditional I own two of these shirts. I love them. I ordered a third. As soon as I put it on I thought something was strange -- "have I gained that much weight?" No. The shirt is smaller. I measured the body of the shirt compared to the body of the shirts I own and found that it is four inches smaller. I had exactly the same experience recently with another clothing store. Why is the shirt smaller? Is it a way to save money? Or, more likely, is it simply inattention? I hope LL Bean will address the specifications of this shirt and restore the "traditional" fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprised Me I've been curious for a while about these canvas shirts. The material was a surprise, softer and with a finer weave than I was expecting. I was a buyer for some clothing stores a long time ago, and I can still tell quality material when I see it and this is a very good deal. One other thing, some of the iconic brands out there, famous for their high quality "rough" outdoor clothing, are now going for "the look" and sell shirts that are too tight to layer under and sleeves that are too narrow to roll above your elbow. This is not that sort of shirt, at least not in the traditional fit. Once again, kudos, LL Bean.
