Rated 5 out of 5 by EastTennessean1 from Great Shirt (buy the tall) This shirt is awesome. It has the stretchiness you'd expect from a base layer but it's 100% wool. I'm not sure how they managed that but its great. The zipper works smoothly and the wool is very soft. A minor complaint is that the thumb holes are tight. I have slender fingers and the thumb holes are noticeably tight. For those of you with sausage fingers you probably won't be able to use the thumb holes without breaking the stitching or cutting off blood circulation. If you are more than 5'10" get the tall if you plan on tucking it in. I'm an athletic build and 6'0" ~165 lbs. and the tall medium fits great. It could probably accommodate a weight up to ~180 lbs on me. Overall a great buy at the sale price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PD63 from Cool Wool :-) I had bought one of these at one of the LL Bean stores and didn't really know what to expect from Merino Wool ( I'm a first time user of this material). I was so impressed and happy with the results that I immediately ordered a second one online. This is the perfect base layer. It's light, warms up pretty well with a second layer (it stays cool if you wear it without a second layer) and it does not itch at all. This was definitely a great find. Also, LL Bean's online order and delivery processing was very swift and fast. I am now a LL Bean Member and so far I am impressed with their products and services.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DaveNY from Tall Size and Comfortable! I love LL Bean for the availability of quality products in tall sizes. The Cresta Wool Midweight is another great example. I own one forest green/black and one black. Some of the highlights- Soft material (not scratchy), excellent (tall) sleeve length with thumb loops and adequate waist length, breathable material. I love these shirts for cooler weather hiking or in the evening to keep the chill at bay. The waste length seemed to get slightly shorter recently with their latest offerings but is still long enough to be comfortable. I wash them as instructed and line dry. They still look and feel great after moderate use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Altruistguy from Fantastic Value; Excellent Performance I wore this all last winter. I love several things about this: - The merino wool is absolutely itch-free. - It fits well. - Unexpected benefit -- wool really does apparently have inherent anti-bacterial properties. I found that I was able to wear this 24x7 for a week at a time without it getting odiferous. - Machine washable! I just turned it inside out, put it in the washing machine with a wool-friendly detergent, and it washed great! - Its cost is a fraction of that for similar products sold elsewhere. I found the manufacturing quality to be excellent. It served me well all last winter and I'm looking forward to wearing it again for much of this coming winter. A fantastic value that I'm glad to have available to me in my drawer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kyhunter from Cresta Wool Midweight Base layer 1/4 zip I ordered both the lightweight and midweight base layers. Wore the light weight combo working a football game on a night the temp went down to 23 degrees with a 20 mph wind. Good!! The midweight top, worn to school a week later under a light weight sweater kept me just warm all day without being scratchy or uncomfortable. I like the choice of weights, the comfort level, and the way the garments feel, but I'm a wool product person from way back. Buy and enjoy. These should be in my winter wardrobe for a long time. The only reason for the four stars is just not enough time to see what the garments can really do, and Kentucky winters can be ugly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cyclist78731 from Wonderful warmth, you will not want to take it off I am a cyclist, and this was intended to be a layering piece. As such, it is quite nice and immediately replaced my synthetic pieces. I have now ordered the crew neck version to go with this. I highly recommend it. My biggest problem is that after the ride, I don't want to take it off, yet I feel it is somehow not right to continue wearing it. After a 5 hour ride yesterday, it didn't smell, so after my shower I put it right back on! I'm wearing it again today! There is no way you could do that with synthetics! Also, machine wash, hang dry. I did dry it at low heat once, and it did shrink a little but not enough to be a problem, as the sleeves were already pretty long! Anyway, you won't regret getting this item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Goodhue from Outstanding! I've been using a couple of old wool shirts from Bean on really cold days for 10 years but because they're showing their age I decided to spring for a couple of new ones. I am delighted with the Cresta Wool Midweight Base Layer, Quarter-Zip! At 6ft,160 lbs.,the medium fits me perfectly. The thumb holes are a great addition and allow me to put other layers over the shirt without it becoming a wrestling match. The mock-neck is a wonderful feature. It's neither too tight nor too loose and keeps my neck warm while also sealing the warmth in. This shirt is also rather stylish and when I wear it alone it is not too warm while I'm inside. While it may have seemed expensive,I've found it to be money well-spent! Highly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Boxcar6 from Tall is shorter than usual I found the body in these to be shorter than what I've come to expect from Bean's (much loved) tall sizes. I ordered this along with the Power Dry Stretch Base Layer, Midweight Quarter-Zip which did not have the same issue. The combination of the manner in which wool fabric naturally moves and the shorter length did not give me the confidence that this would stay tucked in. The sleeves were plenty long and the thumb hole is a nice touch for the purposes of pulling the sleeves all the way down the sleeve of another layer on top of this as a base layer. I'm not sure I would have used the thumb hole during wear, perhaps when using under gloves. The rubber coated zipper pull and cloth tab behind the zipper pull (when in the zipped up position) were nice features and I found the wool fabric to be warm and not too itchy against the skin.
