Rated 2 out of 5 by rfhypnos from Much poorer product I have purchased many LL Bean products and this t-shirt twice over a two year period. The initial purchased shirts were really great fitting and wear a long time, in fact I still wear the initial 3. But this years purchase I find have too much elastic in the neck to the point of seeing curling of the fabric below. I sent one back and have been sent a new one, but the replacement is just as bad as the new one in green color that I purchased. And now the new gray one is doing the same. I think I will probably send all of them back. Too bad such a great product has either been designed differently or changed the fabric to such and inferior product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LoyalShopper1111 from Chemically Treated Non-Absorbant Cotton Tees I bought these to replace the same t-shirts I had bought about 3-4 years ago. Those were great - cotton and very breathable (and untreated). When they wore out I bought these new "unshrinkable" tees. Very disappointed. They are treated with some kind of chemical that doesn't allow moisture or perspiration to be absorbed. It feels like wearing plastic. Any moisture or perspiration isn't wicked away or absorbed. It's even hard to get the t-shirt actually wet. Not good for hot humid summer days. The nice cotton and overall great shirt has been ruined by the chemical treatment. I wish they would offer this identical t-shirt without the chemical processing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Opasteve from Not what I expected I bought six of these T's a few years ago and loved them. XLT fits better than any T I've owned. So I bought four of what I thought were the same T's and was very, very disappointed. I suspect these T shirts are soaked in a water resistant liquid similar to something you'd spray on canvas to keep it dry. The result is, not only does it force the sweat to stay on my body, it causes me to sweat even more profusely. The best way I can describe it; the T shirt makes me feel like my chest has been wrapped in Saran Wrap. I've bought a ton of men's stuff from Bean with great success but this go round was a flop.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Arizona from perfect fit Although the shirt was fabulous, it had one serious drawback. It is treated with something that makes it stain resistant and you can see water bead up on the shirt. That means that it does not breathe, even though it is 100% cotton. In the heat, it's like wearing a plastic bag. You sweat and no air gets in to cool you down. You sweat and no moisture get through the fabric so that the air cools you down. You just bake from the inside and sweat rolls down your torso but there is no way to cool down. In Phoenix, Arizona where it gets over 115 degrees this is a very dangerous shirt to wear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by harasbduck from Not as it used to be..... This t-shirt was a favorite work t-shirt of both my husband and myself for many, many years. However, we recently bought some new ones and were dismayed to discover that whatever has been done to the t-shirt to make it "carefree" and "unshrinkable" has also made the t-shirt less absorbent and less breathable. Sweat gets trapped inside the shirt and does not wick off or get absorbed. As a result, after working up a sweat and then cooling down, we get quite cold, and after working for a while both we and the shirt begin to smell. Unpleasant, to say the least, and not what we had experienced with this shirt before. We will not buy this shirt again, and we are trying out some other brands to see if we can find a replacement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by patricksnowboard from what happened to the quality? I have been a bean customer for many years and I regret that I am leaving due to the change in quality that bean is undergoing. My t's neck turns to "bacon" in 2 washings - the 2x tall fits like an xl regular, the shirt does not breathe. For the pennies that a good neck tape would cost, that the full cut pattern was ... I do not understand bean giving up their quality! Most of us would, and do, pay a few more dollars for quality. So, regretfully, I will no longer be doing business with you...lots of years and loyal customer gone so that a few pennies can be made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ChevyPanel52 from Not what they used to be ... These are still good tee-shirts, but I honestly must say they're not what they used to be, and I have had dozens of LL's Carefree Unshrinkable Tee's over the years. #1 : They have become much thinner: I actually weighed the new one I got recently and compared to an older one that had been washed dozens of times ... 236 grams for the 2016 version, 295 grams for the older, well-washed one. They feel flimsy and don't offer much warmth. #2 - after a couple of washes, the neck line gets all bagged out and misshapen. #3 - the pockets are too small to securely hold a pair of reading glasses or an iPod Touch. Plus the price has skyrocketed. I've switched to the Seacoast Knee Tee's and hope they don't get discontinued.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Pesty from Good, With Reservations The quality is good, the cotton is finely woven, the seams are nicely finished. But, for me at least, there are several flaws that limit my enthusiasm. First, the fabric has a chemical coating that presumably prevents shrinkage. The problem is that it also prevents wicking of perspiration. That's a fatal flaw in warm weather. Second, there is elastic in the neck seam. It is fine if that's what you like, but I find it constricting. Finally, the substance used to prevent shrinkage is not described in any Bean literature that I've found. Is it safe? Who says? Frankly, it's not what I prefer to have next to my skin. Can't anyone make a nice simple tee shirt of good quality that shrinks and fades like a tee shirt should?
