Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4th Time Buying Them! I have bought these four times over the years for my husband and now my son! Absolutely no complaints here! I buy tall for my husband who is 6'2" and has long arms and torso. My husband's job is working 10-12 hours outside every day of the year in the Northeast. This is his "coat" from fall through early spring! My son goes to school in Northern Maine, and now this is the only thing he wears outside! Extremely warm with no bulk! The color of the "Deep Wood Green Heather" in my opinion looks more like a deep brown. I wash them on delicate in cold water, then reshape, and lay flat to dry. Never any shrinkage and still looks brand new!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK but not like my previously purchased sweater I purchased a commando sweater about twenty years ago and still own it and wear it. It developed a couple of moth holes last summer which I repaired but I decided to buy an new one. The new model is significantly lighter in weight, not nearly as closely knitted and a shade or two different in color. The wool on the new one is a bit like rag wool but this might just be the looser knit. Its not as warm as the old version either. However, the new sweater because of its lighter color and looser knit looks less military and might be more appropriate for indoor wear. I would recommend this sweater; its not as good as it used to be, but then what is?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional and Looks Great Sweater fits a little more trim than my other various sweaters in men's large. I'm pretty tall with a very long torso and XL reg fit perfectly. The sleeves can roll to adjust, and the torso is cut a good bit longer than a typical dress sweater which is perfect for me. Unless you're 6'5"+, you probably don't even need the tall size. As some negative reviews say, the wool is not super luxurious or soft, and it a little bit itchy if you aren't used to wool, but it's thick, and most importantly WARM. This is a functional garment, not a fashion statement. It keeps me warm even down to 40deg. Worth every penny.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Made In China First I would like to say this is not an actual wool commando sweater. It is a replica of a wool commando sweater. I have an actual wool commando sweater purchased in the 1980's. It is made in the United Kingdom and very heavy and warm. It is getting old so I was looking for a replacement. This sweater is made in China and is lightweight in comparison. Not that it's not a nice garment. It would look great at the coffee house or wine bar. Makes me look like someone who spends time outdoors. However, I was looking for a sweater that would actually keep me warm when I spend a cold day outdoors.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A pale reflection of former glory I agree with what other reviewers have said. This is not a British MoD wolly pully, but a Chinese copy, made with inferior wool. It looks well enough when new, but after a short term of wear, it is no longer presentable. I can only wear mine for doing household chores and gardening. I suggest you look for the real thing, available at not a not much higher price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The real deal I bought this sweater for my husband who has outgrown his original one. He loves it ans says it's the same quality and style as the original one he had. He order the Woods Green Heather which is brown. As another reviewer stated, this is not green. It should be called dark brown. But it's still what hubby wanted he was fine with either color. He's about 5'8 or 5'9 and the regular was a good fit. The Tall was way too long in the sleeves even with the sleeves rolled up. I was lucky to have received a 30% off coupon from LL Bean from earlier this year when a back ordered item took over 2 months to arrive. So we only paid about $46 for this item. You can't beat that deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winner of the greatest sweater of year! I had been watching this sweater for a while on LL Bean. I finally decided to purchase this sweater when my wife and I decided to go to Europe for Christmas vacation. I was in the Democratic Republic of Congo at the time so I had LL Bean ship to Europe for me and boy was it worth it. This sweater was warm enough to the point that I was sweating indoors while it was under a light jacket. It does give you a rather dashing look. My wife really likes the way it looks on me and said I NEED to buy it to two other colors. I'm 5'10" 198 lbs, athletic build and fits well. I've worn this on top of wool base layer and t-shirt with a medium to light jacket and felt great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 30+ years of use I have worn LL Bean Commando Sweaters for over 40 years. I have literally worn them out. It takes about 20 years to do so. I am a geologist and often work in bad weather - I also am a backpacker and ice climber. So I use these things hard. The fit is great - sleeves are long - and cuffed so when you are working above your head - as in ice climbing - you have enough sleeve to roll down. Same is true of the length of the body. The wool is outstanding. I have bought plenty of expensive wool sweaters in my life - but this is the best - but not the most expensive. Its high quality stuff - and it keeps you warm when wet - I can attest to this from experience. Highly recommended - LLBean needs to stock these forever. At 63, I just bought my last one however - these things last 20 years plus.... This one will last me till the end of the trail. Photo: Late 70s in the Tetons. There is an LLBean Commando Sweater under that Class V mountain parka.
