Built to last a lifetime.
I love this shirt. I just bought my third Maine Guide Shirt, and I also bought one to give to my son (his first). My first Maine Guide Shirt in the classic white/black pattern (no longer offered) I received as a gift 40 years ago. It's still hanging in my closet and I still use it. I've worn it in all four seasons for general outdoor use, hunting, and outdoor work (chain sawing, log splitting, etc.) After 40 years of hard use, it's still in one piece and still providing service. Dear LL Bean - this shirt is one of your all-time classics! Never stop offering it, and maybe consider bringing back the White/Black (I know I'd like to buy another one!)

Best bang for the buck
I bought this shirt after a fairly lengthy internet search that revealed it to be the best bang for the buck. I wanted a shirt, not an outer-layer jacket, so I ordered a medium, which is smaller than the large or x-large I sometimes order for layering. I was pleased with the fit, tho it was too tight in the underarm for any kind of layering other than a liner t-shirt. But that's what I wanted. The shirt was thinner than I anticipated, but it will probably wick faster that way, which is fine with me because it will used mostly for fishing. The color is beautiful. Haven't worn it to my next cold-weather fishing destination yet.

Not like they used to be
Over the years, I have purchased 4 wool Maine guide shirts from llbean for my husband. They have always worn like iron and very warm, heavy shirts. My husband would wear one for about 5 years, then I'd order another one. They never wore out. I would usually wear his oldest one around the house in winter. They were made in the USA or Turkey. Just received his new one and he remarked right away, that the material is no where near as heavy as his previous ones. The tag says made in Vietnam. Seems quite flimsy and we hope that it doesn't wear out right away. Not real pleased.

Best Warm Shirt/Jacket Ever!
This is my second LL Bean Maine Guide shirt. I got the first one as a Xmas gift about 5 years ago.It still looks like new.I decided to buy another color.Got it on sale,Saved a lot of money and it's the same great shirt as my original.Although it's a shirt,it's more of a jacket and it's super warm.Only minor drawback is that it's dry clean only but that's because it's 85% wool...which makes it the warm shirt/jacket that it is.If you wear it as a jacket, like I do, and not as a shirt, you won't have to go to the drycleaners very often.Buy it.It'll be the best shirt/jacket you ever had.

Stop looking and buy this shirt!
I was having second thoughts about getting one after the reviews that said its thin. I don't know what they ended up buying but mine seems as thick as the ones we all bought in the early 70's.
Wore it under a shell opening day deer season this year in Maine, in the rain. No deer, but stayed still and stayed warm under a tree sun up till sundown. The wool windstoper pants helped too!
Day two I tracked 11 deer and ended up with a 200lb buck. I had to take the shirt off for the drag after that blizzard.
Now I'm between hunting and ice fishing season. I love this shirt so much I think I need another! Thanks, Bean!

Men's Maine Guide Shirt
Very nice shirt! I really like it. It is great for layering: room for layers underneath and not too bulky to fit under a coat. Construction feels like it will be very durable. Got the green/black color and really like it.
It is a thinner material than I expected (bought on line), but I guess at the price I paid I should have known better - a heavy wool shirt would have cost a lot more. I do consider this shirt a good value for the price.
I'm taking away one star simply because the description makes it sound like this is a heavier shirt than it is, not because of any problem with the shirt. Had I seen it in a store, I probably would have bought it anyway.

Rugged warmth
I bought two of these shirts to be part of my cold weather gear for Greenland. My project involves building up a telescope at the Thule Air Base and, eventually, bringing it to the summit of the Greenland ice sheet. I need warm gear and gear that can be used for work. These shirts fit the bill. They are a very heavy weight wool that can be a bit itchy. I wear a merino wool base layer underneath. I can usually wear this combo in temperatures below freezing towards the teens and without a coat. When the temperatures are -20F to -40F and lower, this combo with the Baxter State Parka are unstoppable.

Just what i have been looking for.
I wanted a wool shirt to wear in MA during all the hunting seasons. Have been shopping for such an item and find all the other wool shirts offered to be more $$ than i want to spend. Wore this shirt for the first time deer hunting in MA on 12/2/17. Temps were in low 30s with no wind. Wore a long sleeve wicking shirt underneath and was very pleased with the warmth and comfort of the wool shirt. I think it is an excellent price compared to other all wool shirts. The fit was excellent. I am 6' 2" and Tall Long fit perfect. The sleeves extend right to my wrists. Overall, am looking forward to wearing this shirt whenever I hunt and temps are low. I ordered the classic red black plaid [in case I ran into Mr. Bean in the woods}.
