Men's Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Jacket is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 249.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from nice...until it gets wet. Also easy to rip The coat fits great, and is warm until about 20 degrees. Also, once the coat gets a little wet it is useless, which was disappointing. I used it to snow blow several times, and every time it got wet it lost all the insulation quality. The hood is great, and very functional. I have also had it get small rips, as the shell fabric is a little weak. I'll need to purchase another coat, but will keep this one, dealing with the limitation. As with several other recent purchases at LLB, I feel they are compromising quality. I wish they would simply charge a little more and not cut corners, as eventually it will hurt their business.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lacking Down Lacking down in the panels of the back of the jacket. Let me start that my Whole family loves these jackets. This is the second one that I own. My first one is warm and filled well with down. The last one that I purchased is more of a late spring jacket. I always felt that it was less puffy than my first one. Upon investigating further i see that the panels on my back have little too no down in them. What down are in those panels are off to one side of the jacket. I still recommend the jacket to anyone wanting a light weight jacket but they are not made like they used to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm Jacket! This jacket is extremely lightweight and warm, thanks to the 850 weight down and is exactly what I was looking for - something warm that can be worn as an everyday jacket, compresses for travel, and use as a liner to go under my waterproof shell in extreme Minnesota winter weather conditions. One note - I found the fit to be trim or "athletic" in the shoulders and torso. I normally wear XL and went with XXL to get a comfortable fit in the shoulders. At home, I compared this size XXL jacket to my many other size XL jackets in length, shoulder width, sleeve length, etc. They compared pretty much identical in all forms. Go figure...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad for the hood First down jacket that I've purchased with a hood and it works very well when the snow is blowing sideways. I feel that it also zips higher than a non-hooded jacket, which I like as it seals around my neck very well. I find the fit to be slightly large and I could easily wear another layer underneath it. There is one thing I would like that the jacket does not have and is also not present in other brands, there should be two of the external chest pockets, one on each side. Other than that, this is one fine jacket and has served me well so far. I liked it so much that I ordered the corresponding down vest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth every penny, no complaints One interior pocket for warmables like gloves, water filter, socks, lighters, etc... two hand pockets, a small breast pocket, comfortable with a mid-weight long-sleeve base layer well below freezing... as a midlayer with added shell, this jacket would suffice for most people's needs as part of a layering system. When its 30f below freezing with bitter winds, some good layers under this and a good shell over, and I'm fine. Easily packable. A high quality warmth garment, especially for its weight class, warmer by leaps and bounds than industry darling ultralight jackets. Top notch LLBean, thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Before ordering I noted a number of what I considered whiny complaints from other reviewers. Nonetheless, I did order the jacket, have had it over a month and have worn it each day. It is slightly big on me but well within acceptable. I have had no issues with shifting down or cold spots. I have worn it fron 30-55 degrees and it is always comfortable, not too hot or cold. The jacket is incredibly light and I have had several positive comments on the color (green). It really is an outstanding jacket and am happy I ordered it in "tall" for the sleeve length is perfect. I have also worn it in light rain without problems as the fabric has minimal shedding properties.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Material tears easily I am disappointed with the quality of this jacket. I have taken good care of it. A week ago I reached down to pick up a cloth. The sleeve and hem of the jacket brushed a bush, leaving two small tears. The material rips in a line, so the tears enlarged. The folks at Bean were pleasant, but called my brush with vegetation an "accident." I was told I should buy Tenacious Tape to patch the tears. I expect a Bean product to hold up under normal use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pertex Shell Makes this a Loser This hooded jacket was warm down to 10F in Vermont winters, fit as predicted, had well-placed pockets and durable zippers, and the hood was adequate. However: as others have noted, the Pertex shell is not ripstop and tore easily and frequently. After three months there were so many holes, and duct tape patches, that it became unusable. In addition, while the 850 down may be water resistant, the Pertex shell is definitely not. For similar cost, more durable and water-repellant down jackets are available from a number of other quality outerwear providers.
