Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toasty in Antarctica! My husband and I both purchased these jackets last year for a trip to Antarctica. We wore them everyday with light layers. Kept us warm for our excursions on land and in zodiacs zipping around from iceberg to iceberg. The attached picture demonstrates how the jacket might be used to comfort an injured barred owl found at a wildlife refuge. While waiting for the ranger, the owl began to shiver, so the ultralight jacket was used as a blanket. The owl stopped shivering within a few minutes. The owl was checked by a biologist and sent to recover at an owl rehab center.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, waterproof jacket Living in the Pacific Northwest, it's important to have a hooded, waterproof jacket. This coat fits the bill. It's very warm - too warm for many days here, but great for the days when the temperature drops, or just cool and very damp. The fit is a little large on me - I'm able to fit a thin fleece vest under it, over a long sleeve T shirt layer. I have fairly wide shoulders and a DD cup size. I have full range of motion of my arms and back in this coat. I might be able to go down a size, but prefer to have it a little big with freedom to move, than a jacket that is too snug. The petite length is perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good choice I have only worn this jacket 3 times since I purchased it but I'm very happy so far. The material is very soft and light weight. It is amazing that such a light weight jacket keeps you warm. Love that it is down-filled, has a hood that is not bulky, the sleeves are the right length and they are fitted. The bottom of the jacket is kind of wide but it has drawstrings to pull it tight to keep the wind out. I have gotten several compliments on the green color!! I do have a question for LLBean. In one pocket is a zipper that says STOW but no explanation what it is for or how to use it?? I did purchase this jacket for a trip we will be taking and I was hoping it would pack easily without taking up much space. It definitely will do that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd one This is the second one of these jackets that I’ve ordered. Wore the first for 2-3 years until one of my cats tried to climb it. I was able to close the tear, but now it’s for around the yard. Just got a new royal plum one. So lightweight and yet it really keeps me warm. Warm enough to wear running the snowblower until the job was done. A great grab-and-go jacket. Like the elastic wrists and the fit of the hood. The only thing I would change is making it a two-way zipper for in the car.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 850 Hooded jacket - the one made in 2016/17 This is my 3rd purchase of the same 850 down jacket. Got one recently discontinued model. They stopped making this model. They changed it completely by size and adding more down which in my opinion was not necessary. I tried the new version and do not like it at all. Returned it. The original jacket is very warm and I wear them all the time in PA winters. I wish they would consider bringing the jacket back in its original form. I love the color of my first one - Ruby Coral. I have a blue teal color and Rubarb color too. The fit, the look, the warmth - I like everything about it and received many compliments over the past few years with these jackets. Bring back the original model!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sleeves too short and tight cuffs I wanted to love this jacket. I’ve been wanting to buy this for a while, so when there was a great sale I jumped on it. I love the color and the fit overall, but the sleeves are just too short and I don’t like the fact that the cuffs are so tight and can’t be adjusted. It would be great if the sleeves were about an inch or so longer and if there were Velcro adjustable cuffs. I will be returning, but I would love to purchase this jacket in the future if the sleeves were adjustable and a little bit longer. Also, it would be wonderful if there was a soft fleece lining in the pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for Winter Walks This is my third 850 down jacket. I purchased the earlier jackets two years ago and have worn them constantly during our cool and wet pacific northwest winters. Two jackets should have been enough! :) However, I wanted a brightly colored visible jacket for winter walks. The "dark red" hooded jacket is perfect! It is definitely not dark red, but a bright visible red. I accent with a black wool scarf , a pom pom wool hat, and black gloves. I'm between a medium and a large, but prefer the large for layering with a vest if it is super cold. I like the lightweight cloudlike warmth - very cozy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not a winter coat It’s a gorgeous coat and very comfortable and I will keep it but if you live in really cold climates this is not the coat for you. It will work for me OK with a layer underneath until bitter cold hits and I do have other coats for below zero. So gorgeous coat but not as stuffed with down as it appears in photo.
