Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weatherproof and Coldproof Recently received and I love this jacket. Temps dipped down to the single digits with sleet and snow and heavy winds and this jacket kept me a perfectly warm temperature. Wind nor water did penetrate and the primaloft insulated and breathed well on a brisk hike. I wore a wool baselayer and light polyester long sleeve shirt under the jacket for the hike. The quality of this piece is top notch. Zippers are seam sealed, it’s slightly fitted which helps modernize the look of this jacket. I look forward to enjoying this jacket as my primary winter jacket for some time as it’s built extremely durably. Thank you, LL Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Cold Weather Jacket For the price, this is my best waterproof cold weather hooded jacket ever. With two chest pockets for glasses case and cell phone, plus lined hood and jacket pockets, perfect garmet for early morning winter walks here on the west coast (30's to 40's). I layer with a Bean chamois shirt. I like the extra lengths to keep my neck and lower body warmer. I don't have to worry about getting cold in the rain. I particularly like the inside right pocket to hold my gloves. I still love my regular primaloft hoodie and very old wool-lined barn coat (made in Maine) for a warmer mornings. This jacket now works the best for me for the coldest walks with my Lab.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Jacket, But Not Really a Winter Coat The Packaway jacket fits nice and feels comfy, is good-looking, and is very nicely constructed and detailed, with great touches like fleece cuffs, fleece collar trim, fleece pocket liners, adjustable outer cuffs, pit zips, velcro hood adjustment, and more. But while it's waterproof and windproof, it really doesn't have enough insulation to be a true winter coat - it's more of a shoulder-season or mild-day coat. I spent a winter with it, and found I couldn't wear it outside much below 40 degrees if I were just walking around and running errands. But I think I'll keep it, since it's useful on those days.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not warm First the good. This is overall a nice coat. It has plenty of pockets, like a lot of Bean's coats. The hood is the best fitting hood I have ever used. But this coat is not warm. Here in southern IN we have a lot of different weather in the winter. I have tried this in several different conditions and have never been warm it it. The insulation feels extra thin across the back of the shoulders and that is with a heavy layer under it. It might be a good coat for cool, wet spring conditions but not a winter coat. I have been a Bean's customer for years and own several of their coats and this is the first to disappoint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dog Park Go To Jacket Needed something warm on its own and with enough room to layer for (Minnesota) cold, snowy, wet, windy trips to dog park. Originally got Rugged Ridge parka because it was too warm (!) and lacked "pit zips." Was worried Packaway would be too light. Turned out it's plenty warm enough and accommodates layering just fine. Pockets are good, and has inner storage (goggle pocket) for dog paraphernalia. Only mark-downs are collar area doesn't have soft liner (which is not comfortable in the cold) and no top-down-bottom-up zipper. Price was right when I got it on sale. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We liked it so much we ordered another I ordered a similar woman's coat first for a fall trip to Ireland coming up this year as I anticipate some rainy days touring. Unfortunately I've had plenty of days to check it out this winter as SC has been cold and rainy; fortunately it's a great coat. My husband was impressed with its light weight, warmth and being rain proof so we ordered a similar men's coat for him. My son grabbed it on his way to work today, loves it and so now I'm ordering him one too. My husband loves all the available, zippable pockets. I love that it's warm, rainproof with an adjustable hood so I don't get dripped on and that it can be tucked into it's own pocket for easy storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect coat for Western NY Winter! Just came in from 22 degree weather with 29 mile an hour winds and with this coat those conditions are no bother! Keeps my arms and torso warm with no wind or chill cutting through the fabric. The hood and zip up around the neck, chin and face keep my head and cheeks protected. Through this 2019/2020 winter with deep chills and winds I have been in awe of how this coat keeps me comfortable from the temps but also gives me lots of flexibility and ease of movement. It packs away easily in luggage taking up minimal space. I wear it usually with LL Bean's Airlight Full-Zip Hoodie which is also lightweight which makes a nice combo for me both in town and on the road. Extremely happy with these two purchases to get me through a cold winter, well worth the cost!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice jacket for alpine skiing I wanted something I could wear alpine skiing. A light shell, with good water repelling characteristics, and some warmth. It's a quality jacket, with some nice features, like a little hood stiffener to help keep its shape. Self-stuffing sack. Soft cuffs. Three things would make it better, a waist cinch, a snow skirt, and a flap to cover the main zipper. How could a rain jacket not have a flap over the zipper? Oh, maybe a 4th, how about a small zippered pocket on the upper left sleeve for a RFID ski pass. It's about 10F in my pic, with windchills even lower. I have a thin puffer and turtleneck under the jacket and am completely warm.
