Rated 5 out of 5 by AquaticOne from Works in sun and windy conditions I ordered this hat because we have had extremely windy conditions on the golf course lately. I'm tired of having to chase my hat all over the course risking encounters with gators and getting it wet in our many ponds. I've used the hat twice on the golf course, and it did not blow off. Now I'm using it to teach my aqua aerobics classes. It can be very windy there, too. It is essential that I keep sun off my face, neck and ears, and this hat does it. I've gotten many compliments on the color, too. It is light aqua. The hat can be tightened two ways, around the crown of the head and with the chin strap. I absolutely love it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NewMexicoShopper from Unusable This hat reeked so badly of a harsh chemical smell that I could not use it. I have returned it. After having received several items with the same harsh smell and having aired and repeatedly washed them to rid them of the smell, I have decided not to keep items with this smell. My first review was apparently too honest in that I called for L.L. Bean to list the chemicals with which their products are treated. They would not post that review and told me to try again and sent me a list of unacceptable inclusions. I could not find which criterion my review violated. This product went back. I always have expected the best from Bean. Not any more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by yardman2 from light, keeps sun off Don't like hats much. But sun damaged skin requires wear one anytime in sun. Wanted a hat with built in backflap. Not many out there. This hat has back flap under headband hidden out of view. Pull it down when needed. Entire hat is light along with back flap. Have used so far cutting grass. Wind did not affect hat. Will use on river fishing later so will know how hat does then in real wind. However, if you are looking for a hat with back flap to keep sun off your neck, I highly recommend this hat. Wish it came in a darker tan. Hat is very light color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VegasLisa from Lightweight hat for a lot of sun I was searching for a hat that wouldn't make my head hot. Glad I bought the large size even though I don't think of myself as having a large head;-) The sizing seems to run smallish. I like the bright white although I got it dirty asap. It was easy to wash though! I have to remember to be a little careful. The white is great as it seems to deflect the hot Vegas sun. I like the strap that goes underneath the chin. If it's windy, it holds onto my head. Overall, love the hat...I would maybe have purchased a light tan though and not white if it were available. I don't think it is though...I'd have to double check.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SkipperZ from It's made all of the difference = great protection While I've been wearing hats for years, they just weren't protecting my currently very sensitive head from getting a severe sunburn, seemingly in just minutes. So I recently purchased one of these hats, which truly has made all of the difference, in no-more sunburn. Also the fact that the hat is very comfortable, and cooler than expected, while also being of very high quality construction = I'm now a most happy camper and take this hat with me most everywhere. And rather surprisingly, it's also staying clean. So great hat LLBean, with zero disappointments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HJR1 from Love it! I bought this hat because my doctor said I should protect my head from the sun. I walk a lot, and keep my hair very short and she was concerned about my sun-darkened scalp. So I found this hat at LL Bean and decided to try it. Fits nicely, and the top strap keeps it on your head. If it is very windy, you'll have to use the chin strap, too. When not in use, it tucks neatly into the brim, just as the back neck flap does. In most cases, you can adjust the brim to keep the sun off your neck, but it's nice to know the flap is there if needed. Highly recommended!

Rated 2 out of 5 by MaxH42 from The good, the bad, and the flimsy I loved this hat at first. It is thin and light, so it keeps the sun off of my head while allowing sweat to evaporate and any little breeze will cool you off. I thought it was perfect for travel....until I tried to fold it up. It is floppy and flexible, but there's some sort of cheap plastic strip in the brim that breaks very easily, and when it does it creates sharp points. So this hat is great IF you can treat it gently, but don't expect to tuck it in a backpack or back pocket to take on a travel adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OctoberAmyCO from Great hat, very functional, good fit Great hat. The foam in the brim will keep the front from flying up in a breeze on a boat like the other ones do (making them useless as a sunshade). The strings under the chin keep it from flying off and getting lost, but you can slip them behind your head if they bug you or you don't need them. I thought mine was missing the neck shade at first because it was so well tucked and hidden into the hat, but I found it and it works to shade the back of the neck from the sun. Be sure to measure like they say, around the forehead with a tape measure, because this hat gives you a custom fit.
