Rated 5 out of 5 by Franey from Women's silk turtleneck My friend in Nova Scotia purchased my black turtleneck so I would have it to wear when I visited. I liked it so much,I ordered it in ivory. I am visiting and have practically worn them every day. They are thin, fit very close to the skin, thus keep u unbelievably warm as a layering piece.Yes they do snag easily as some reviews indicate but I am very careful and I do hang to dry. I recommend buying a size smaller as they run a bit big.I do not like the tight feel of a turtleneck around my neck and these are the best I have ever worn.I live in Florida and have even worn on our colder days there. Thanks to my friend for introducing this silk turtleneck to me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by rmmmr from Problem with silk t-neck I am writing this review because a few months ago, I purchased this blue silk turtleneck, and a black one also. I have ALWAYS had good experiences with LL Bean products. The black silk turtleneck has had no issues. However, after wearing the blue silk turtleneck once, and exercising great care with the delicate material, I found numerous vertical "runs" in the fabric. I had set it aside and am now finally getting around to pursuing exchanging the damaged shirt for a new, undamaged one. I look forward to your instructions. Thank you!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Turtlewiz from Attractive but now costs too much for the quality I've been ordering and wearing these attractive silk turtlenecks from LL Bean for years--the style is comfortable and versatile and can be worn with a shell in spring as well as in cold weather. Several years ago, however, they started getting more expensive and inclined to develop vertical runs around the collar. Because of this I stopped buying them in colors and stuck to black, which showed the runs less. But for the past few years, I've even had to buy a new black one each year--the shells don't hide all the runs. This year's version costs $55 (as opposed to the $40 I paid 5 years ago, for a better quality item). That wouldn't be so bad, but this year's version is definitely thinner and flimsier, and if it lasts through the spring and next fall even with care and hand washing, I'll be surprised. I love LL Bean and usually have no questions at all about a purchase from this website, but $55 for what should really be a $20-$30 item is excessive. I'll have to look elsewhere when this one gives out (which I suspect will be soon).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pariziete from Excellent as expected Winged words. It is thin, see through , but warm. That's what you expect from silk underwear. And luckily it is long enough not just to cover belly button. Silk underwear is for people who are bothered by wool itch and thickness, but like to be warm. Even though I have underwater made from wool/silk, I prefer pure silk. This one washes very well and lasts for decades if washed in a proper way. (I deliberately avoided fancier looking version, because it may "run") Only the black color fades away over years. ... I have both black and natural.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JMarie2 from Huge disappointment I previously purchased silk long underwear - top and bottom from LLBean. When I wanted another turtleneck, I didn't hesitate to order again from LLBean. What a disappointment! Despite the $50+ cost, this top was more like a silk stocking than a wearable top. I would bet after pulling it on once or twice it would tear or run. Holding it up to the light you could see through it even when doubled. It might be acceptable for 1/4th the price and considered disposable. For a quality product, no way. Returned...

Rated 2 out of 5 by silkT from silk turtleneck the turtleneck is so thin now. having purchased this from LLBean for decades (yes, decades), it used to be much thicker. Now I can actually see through it. I love LLBean, and used these turtlenecks for international business travel for many years...so I have the past and the present over the years... they began getting thinner, but this last one was just way too thin. I then began looking at competitors. which are thicker (like the old LLBean version) and less cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tolersense from The Perfect Insulator without Bulk I hesitated when I saw the cost but now have no doubt that the silk under layer is worth every dollar. Face it, Maine is cold and heat is spendy so we get smart and creative. A layer of silk next to your skin is not just a kind way to protect it from a courser layer like a wool sweater, but it has it's own incredible insulating properties as well. Also silk beats the heck out of synthetics - especially in the winter when the static electricity that I generate when I take off a synthetic shirt in cold and dry weather could probably power my laptop.

Rated 1 out of 5 by SonyaDor from very disappointed I loved the turtle neck, but after wearing it once there were numerous runs in the fabric around the neck. I exchanged it for a new one, and that one did the same thing. very disappointing, I really wanted it.
