Ultralight 850 Down Sweater Vest
In a class all its own, our revolutionary 850 vest defies cold, wet weather – and comparison. We combined all the best outerwear technology – innovative DownTek fill, 850-fill-power and a Pertex Quantum polyester shell – for unbeatable performance.
Size & Fit
- Slightly Fitted.
- Best with lightweight layer.
Why We Love It
We start with premium 850 down, which provides more warmth for its weight, and then treat it with revolutionary DownTek that allows our jackets do what many others can’t – keep you warm, even in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary down that soaks up moisture, ours absorbs 33% less moisture and dries 66% faster so it stays light, lofty and warm. On the outside, the game-changing Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for exceptional durability.
Fabric & Care
- 850-fill-power goose down is one of the highest on the market, delivering more warmth for weight.
- Pertex Quantum polyester shell is tightly woven for durability and weather-resistance.
- Certified by the Responsible Down Standard, ensuring the humane treatment of animals.
- Virtually weightless style easily packs away into its own pocket.
- Narrow quilt lines for sweater-like styling.
- No annoying crinkling noise when you move.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ant56 from Nice So far so good. Haven't been able to really test it out yet in July, but the jacket is very nice. I ordered the gray, but not sure if I like the orange zipper. I just had too much black so wanted a different neutral color, but the orange kinda makes this jacket more sporty...and I would like to use this vest for work as well. I don't want to knock a jacket down because of a color preference so I will give it 5-stars; however... I think llbean could have used a more subtle color combination. Also, the regular size is short, so if you are like me and want your jackets a little longer you will have to go with the tall size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GoNepal from As advertised I have a downstairs that being partially underground is measurably colder than my main floor - yet my office is located in the colder section of the house. As I age I find that my back gets cold easily and makes comfort elusive. The 850 sweater vest is great for keeping me warm, and not being too bulky like other down vests I have had. I also react badly to tight necks, and this vest leaves plenty of room - comfortable but warm when zipped all the way up. I am very pleased with the vest and the only concern I have is how well it will wash and dry... That has yet to be done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLCoffeeBeaner from Comfortable, Warm, and Stylish I got this vest just a few days ago but so far I am very impressed! I purchased a LL Bean down jacket last winter and absolutely loved it so I knew I was bound to be happy with this vest purchase as well - and I am! It has a "stow" pouch which fits the vest within itself and is very convenient for traveling as it keeps the vest protected within a suitcase or backpack. I've been wearing it outside in about 40-50 degree weather and it's been keeping me warm. One of the biggest upsides for me personally is that it's available in tall sizes so the fit is very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AdirondackSam from Great Vest But Watch The Sizing! I received this as a Christmas gift and loved it (an XXL Tall). Unfortunately, it was so tight-fitting I can't wear it and will be sending it back. Based on prior purchases, I think it's way off the mark from a size standpoint (either that or the one I got was mislabeled). I received an XXL Tall LL Bean parka as another gift and it fits great. I buy XL Tall LL Bean Shirts all the time and they fit me just fine. The vest is very lightweight and I'm very disappointed that it just doesn't fit me because otherwise it is a winner of a product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by TheMickMan from Skeptical Nice looking vest and a pretty color but it not do what I intended when I purchased it. It had inadequate down to really insulate. I tried it as an outer layer and a mid layer and it did not help me keep warm either way. It seemed that some tubes had little or no down in them. I questioned the manufacturer's quality control process. I felt of the tubes with my fingers. The vest needs to be a bit closer to the jacket or 850 down. I have one and it is great. My wife has three and she loves them. The vest looked great but had inadequate insulation properties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trophoblaster from Warm and light weight When you are cold and require a lightweight vest. This vest is the one. I have both a blue and a black vest. Excellent construction. I wear them year round. When traveling takes up little space in your carryon bag. Excellent to wear over a shirt not only to keep warm but to carry your pen, cell phone and keys. The three pockets are perfect. Wear it to work and at work. Have multiple down jackets which are bulky. This vest is just as warm, not as bulky and stylist. Washes well. Would recommend to everyone who needs a bit of warmth any time - Snow or Shine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EfficiencySeeker from Exactly What I Expected I should begin by stating I absolutely despise bulky clothing and any nuisance for that matter. I also truly dislike being too warm; the kind where you feel sweaty for no reason. This vest appealed to me because of that. It has zero bulk. It packs inside a pocket sewn within the vest. It is perfect for taking on an airplane for that reason. It is also warm. I have worn this with just a long sleeve basic shirt in temperatures down to 40 degrees walking for over an hour. I have worn this as a base layer under a waterproof shell in temperatures down to 20 degrees. It has served superbly in all conditions. Today it was 21 degrees and I wore it outside with a flannel shirt under it. Again, it impressed. In fact, I was so impressed I ordered the matching coat. The only improvement I would make is possibly another pocket inside, but the idea is packable warmth so I am all good with the item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by quant42 from Does the job I keep the thermostat in my house down to save money on heating and normally wear a sweater. Sometimes the sweater is not enough to keep my core warm. Adding another sweater makes things too bulky. This down vest does the job. It keeps my core warm. It is thin and light, so does not add bulk. I like the collar for my neck.
