Why We Love It
We start with premium 850 down, which provides more warmth for its weight, and then treat it with revolutionary DownTek that allows our jackets to do what many others can’t – keep you warm, even in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary down that soaks up moisture, ours absorbs 33% less moisture and dries 66% faster so it stays light, lofty and warm. On the outside, the game-changing Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven to resist the elements.
Fabric & Care
- 850-fill-power goose down is one of the highest on the market, delivering more warmth for weight.
- Premium Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for wind and weather-resistance.
- Certified by the Responsible Down Standard, ensuring the humane treatment of animals.
- Virtually weightless style easily packs away into its own pocket.
- At only 10 ounces, this ultra comfy sweater is great on chilly days.
- Layers perfectly under a shell when serious cold sets in.
- Narrowly quilted channels of down for a streamlined appearance.
- Adjustable drawcord at the hem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeanProductUser from Do you want to be warm? Warmth, quality and the aesthetic appeal. Look at this jacket, just really look at it. Ask yourself, what other jacket doesn't thermally bridge its stitching from the exterior to the interior face? Only one other jacket, and it cost 3-times the price. The hooded version still seals the neck at high-zip not allowing for the bodies heat generation to be lost through this gap - not advertised - it includes pull-ties on both sides of the jacket, fully allowing the user the both seal the top and the bottom from any heat escape. These small details are crucial in survival to cold weather situations where one needs to conserve energy and warmth that the body produces. Buy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by lpennock from Not that warm First the good news. It is light and packs nicely into the built in pocket. Now the bad. It isn't all that warm. I don't find it as warm as Polartech 200 fleece. When I put the fleece on indoors I get warm fast but this jacket takes awhile and never makes it to the too warm level when the house in 70 degrees. In 20F weather it isn't too bad if you are active with expedition weight base layer but if there is any wind it really doesn't keep you that warm. Bottom line: if you need a jacket lighter than a fleese outer layer it is good for that but unless you need the minimum weight the fleece is the better deal and probably warmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 60s4ever from So light and so warm I'm amazed at the new technology of something so light that can keep you so warm in cold and windy conditions. I don't know why it's called a sweater, because it doesn't fit the image that I have of a sweater. Maybe because it's lighter than any sweater. It's great for golf in cold weather, because it doesn't interfere with my swing and it will compress into a small pouch that you can stow in your golf bag. Just zip the zipper all the way up and there no strings to deal with for the hood. I also have the Ultralight 850 Down Jacket for temperatures colder than 20 degrees F.

Rated 5 out of 5 by philly215runner from The Jacket that Started my L.L. Bean Addiction! I needed something that would fit well, and after searching through so many stores I decided to give L.L. Bean a try. I purchased this because I found it in a medium tall (I usually wear large) and the fit was exceptional. This jacket is the perfect amount of warm. Indoors when it is a little chilly it works well, outdoors when you are moving around it is great, and it is tremendously versatile. I wear it nearly everywhere. From a commute to run errands or a hiking trip I have loved this jacket. It makes winter bearable. The only downside is that it is a bit fragile. So I would recommend keeping that in mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Capt44 from warm and windproof and packable I bought this sweater/jacket for my husband after I kept lauding it's virtues of the three I own. He wears a Men's regular medium in all LLBean shirts and jackets. This regular medium fits perfectly. It is warm while being incredibly light, keeps the winds out and the hood stays put when the jacket is zipped up. We both roll ours up while traveling in our van and the resulting size fits easily in the overhead racks ready to grab and use. We travel twice a year, fall and spring across country from Wyoming to the southeast and back so there are multiple weather changes, even snow in early fall. The jacket is perfect for ALL of the cool/cold temperatures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dcgoebel from VERY nice Really did not know what to expect with this purchase. This is my first foray into the "puffy" jacket world. First off, this is very light, barely know I'm wearing it. Secondly, it is warm, I would say warm, to 35 degrees with no activity and with heavy activity probably down to 0, it hasn't gotten that cold yet and we are in a warm spell here on the east coast. Third, style is great (got the grey with contrast orange on the zippers), getting many good comments on the look. Can't wait to test the "water resistance" feature. Used coupons and discount and got a great price on this as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HalH from Light weight and excellent fit. I purchased this down jacket with hood to replace a much heavier jacket that never kept me warm. Although a fraction of the weight of my old jacket, the LL Bean jacket is much warmer and with the hood up even more so. Zippers work well especially the internal pocket one with the dual pulls. I usually have trouble with fit (thin with wide shoulders and long arms), but this jacket fits perfectly. I've had a couple of feathers poke through the shell, and mistakenly pulled one out. That's the only negative so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ragnar77 from First Gen SUPER. This Gen HORRIBLE I was lucky enough to get a first generation with felt lined collar and pockets bucu down filling and great fit. XL was perfect. Unfortunately I got this new and “improved” version and it is horrible. No felt pockets or collar, seems like cheaper outer layer, much less down and horrible fit. XL is much smaller. So I got hooked on a super jacket that was made cheaper but have to pay same price. Why on earth ruin a super product? Oh yeah, cheaper to make, sell for same, bigger profit! Super bummer.
