Rugged Ridge Waterproof Hiking Shoes is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely, high-quality shoe for wearing anywhere. Due to lots of snow on the ground, I have not been able to wear this shoe outside the house. It appears to be a very high quality shoe for active travel. My foot is usually a size 6 1/2, although I have tended to buy size 7 in Merrills and Keen. This shoe is a generous size 6 1/2 for me with room for mid-weight to heavy socks, so I am glad I chose my usual size. It looks upscale yet low-profile enough for me to wear as an 'only' shoe when needing to travel light. Footbed has great support! Lovely material and the color granite is deeper than my computer shows. Happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good shoe This is a well made shoe providing excellent support. It was recommended by Bean's extremely knowledgeable product specialists. It provides good cushioning at the ball of the foot (an area not well addressed by so many mfgrs); excellent support and stability; the toe box top is solid material that keeps the feet warm, not the mesh that so many use (circulation is great in warm weather, but not so much in a cold climate!). and they look good. Very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stiff and well padded for backpacking Somehow, I overlooked Bean's description: "This is a true hiking shoe that can perform on multiday hikes over rough terrain while carrying a pack." That explains why they're so large, stiff, and clunky! It may also explain why they're too wide for me with midweight socks (if they're supposed to be worn with heavyweight socks). They fit and feel like hiking boots minus the ankle support. My heels do slip when walking--same as other reviewers have complained--but heavyweight socks might help. The shoes are beautifully made, have pretty yet dignified colors (gray and pale blue), and have speed lacing, which I adore. The insoles even have extra padding at the ball of the foot. I would certainly recommend them for their intended use. But I actually wanted a moderately stiff street shoe to handle broken pavement, not a backpacking shoe. So, unfortunately, I'll be sending them back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Substantial Hiking Shoe This is a true 8 1/2. I'm between and 8 1/2 and 9 in most shoes and this 8 1/2 is perfect. I sometimes need a 9 to get the extra width, but not with these. The shoe is substantial and gives great support. A bit stiff when I first put them on but quickly lost the stiffness. I haven't taken them off since they arrived a few hours ago - very comfortable! Can't wait to get on the trails - or streets of Europe - with them!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not waterproof! Do not wear in damp weather grass! These normally are good work shoes and are quite comfortable for walking 10+ miles a day. But last night it rained, so the 10 miles is through wet grass (short lawns). Well, I’m a quarter way through my day with freezing wet feet in my “waterproof” shoes.” I still have several hours of outdoor work to complete.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from narrow This shoe is well made, but has a narrow toe box that doesn't well accommodate my feet. That said, I expect that those with narrow feet will enjoy it. Especially like the solid uppers (the fad for mesh because it breathes lets in air and foreign bodies).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Where are the small sizes? Little people go hiking too you know. I loved these shoes the moment I saw them online BUT the smallest size is a 6. So keeping my fingers crossed I ordered them and sadly they were like boats and I had to send them back. So what is a person to do that has size 5 to 5 1/2 feet? Sometimes kids stuff is ok but since their colors are increasingly pink and purple it doesn't look good once you are over 50. I'm 4'11" and very active. Please LLBean, if you are going to offer stuff for women, please think about all sizes of women.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Heel Slips After hiking in the same Bean boots for 20 years, it was time for a replacement. Returning these shoes because the heel slips, making them unwearable. Everything else about the shoe is great.
