Rated 4 out of 5 by RetHistProf from Comfortable I bought two pair of the Pathfinder pants last month in dark driftwood color--it is a darker khaki and I really like the color. I already had the basil (1950s army fatigue green)and the shell khaki (light khaki). The earlier pairs were regular waist and I hesitated to try the comfort waist. While I still wish there were both options, I found the comfort waist to be comfortable and not too obvious. The rise does seem a little shorter than the regular waist but it is ok. I normally wear a 30 or 31 inseam and I bought the 32 inseam which after some shrinkage is just right for me and I would recommend a longer inseam. Love the cargo pockets on these because they aren't bulky.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Radar from Good But, This pant has the usual quality of an LL Bean product. The unfortunate thing is that it is very difficult to put in or take an item out of the cargo pocket. Bean has attached a rubber bungee type strap that helps to open to pocket flap, but they have also sewed the corners of the flap so that you cannot open the flap fully. This makes it very difficult to get an item such as a phone out quickly and just as difficult putting it back in. I actually cut the corners free and hemmed the cut edges to prevent fraying. Works much easier now but this step was unfortunate just to make it easier. If you want easy access, do not buy this item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nebulosa from alas the pockets I have had four pairs of these pants, and I like them enough to have just ordered two more pair. However, there is one annoying problem: the fabric of the pockets is so fragile that they soon shred into holes, dumping my change on the floor. I have repeatedly sewed a line of stitches above the tear, but a new tear soon opens above the stiches. This has happened to all of the pairs of these pants that I have bought, but never happens to any other pants I have, dress or casual. Since I carry the same pocket change and car keys in these pants as in all others, I must conclude that the fabric is just too thin and undurable. On my just-ordered pants, I propose not to carry more than a few coins, and keep my keys somewhere else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by bluedun from Favorite pants These have become my favorites for all year wear in the California San Francisco Bay area mild climate, escpecially for the flat cargo pockets that are perfect for stashing the iPhone. The expandable waist is great for tucking in flannel in the rainy season. The look is good for casual dressy or chores. My quibbles, though, are with the velcro pocket fasteners--so, 4 stars not 5. The velcro eventually shreds the nylon cord loops and the single line stitching of the velcro will break loose on a pocket. But, that does not stop me from reordering. I'm waiting for a pair to come now. I've had to downsize on the waist after losing some unneeded weight--YAY! Shrinkage is about an inch in length. Waist? Not noticed due to the elastic--good idea, LLB.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 3141isPi from Great pants -- but cotton does shrink! I got these pants in 36X32 and, out of the bag, they fit just fine. Given that they're cotton, however, I immediately washed them (in cold water) to make sure that they'd still fit after laundering. Unfortunately, they shrunk to the point where both the waist and inseam are now too short. I like the material and the styling -- the cargo pockets provide good travel capability and look much better than the usual patch pockets on cargo pants made for backpacking and heavyweight outdoor usage. They're very comfortable, too. But I'd advise buyers to heed the caveats of other reviewers and get a size larger in both waist and inseam to make sure they fit after washing. I sent my pants back for a refund -- but immediately ordered two additional pairs in the larger size!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Stanrf from Bad design of Front Cargo Pocket Flap The front cargo pockets flaps are SEWN at each end and that makes it extremely difficult to insert your hand into the pocket. I expect the ends were sewn to eliminate the occasional lifting of the flap ends. I cut the rear sewn end, folded it to avoid the material flaring and sewed the folded flap. The result is my hand can now more easily enter the pocket. The correct solution is to avoid the sewn ends and place a piece of velcro at the end of each pocket flap and eliminate the velcro in the middle of the flap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ACLEM from Great pants! This is the first pair I have ordered. First of all, they fit perfectly. I ordered a 35x30, which is not always available for mens pants, where they usually size the waist at 34 or 36. I washed them in cold water and tumble dried low as recommended and they did not shrink. The pockets are perfect for holding my wallet, car key, phone, etc. and I like the slim design of the pockets, unlike bulky flaps found on most cargo pants. The pants are soft and comfortable. One drawback for some might be the size of the pockets. They work for me, however, if you have large hands, or a large smartphone, you might find them the to small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ArtSeattle from Very nice and comfortable pants Well made with a medium-weight fabric. I might also try the lighter weight for warm summer wear, but these are good universal pants. Very enjoyable design with useful pockets. Elastic "comfort fit" is nice but is functionally of little use. Biggest disappointment was how they are about 1 inch short as you wear them - even though the inseam is indeed what I asked for (32 in.). The problem comes from a 1 inch shorter than normal crotch length. Not unbearable but definitely affects my wear-ability expectations - therefore a 4, verses a 5 rating.
