      Product Details

In a class all its own, our revolutionary 850 jacket defies cold, wet weather - and comparison. We combined all the best outerwear technology - innovative DownTek fill, 850-fill-power and a Pertex Quantum nylon shell - for unbeatable performance.
      Size & Fit
      • Center back length, size L: 29½" (Tall 31").
      • Slightly Fitted.
      • Best with midweight layer.
      • Falls at hip.
      Why We Love It
We start with premium 850 down, which provides more warmth for its weight, and then treat it with revolutionary DownTek that allows our jackets to do what many others can’t – keep you warm, even in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary down that soaks up moisture, ours absorbs 33% less moisture and dries 66% faster so it stays light, lofty and warm. On the outside, the game-changing Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven to resist the elements.
      Fabric & Care
      • 850-fill-power goose down is one of the highest on the market, delivering more warmth for weight.
      • Premium Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for wind and weather-resistance.
      • Machine wash and dry.
      Additional Features
      • Virtually weightless style easily packs away into its own pocket.
      • Elastic cuffs seal out icy gusts.
      • Internal stowaway pocket doubles as a stuff sack.
      • External zip handwarmer pockets.
      • Media storage with headphone ports.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Light Fill I recently purchased this jacket for winter use. While it is a great jacket for fall use, it will not keep you warm below 30 degrees unless you layer it with a heavy sweatshirt or the like. It is very lightweight and the fit is great, albeit a bit roomier for the size that I ordered - Large (I'm 6'0" and 170 pounds. The problem is that there just is not enough fill to keep one warm if you happen to live in a northeastern climate (Erie, PA). I'll keep the jacket for fall use but I cannot recommend it for winter. I understand the need to cut costs, but I would gladly pay more for a Bean jacket of yesteryear's quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Downgraded the jacket I got this jacket about 2 years (when it used to be puffy and warm) ago. I recommended it to my brother and he took my advice to purchase one. When he got it last year, we couldn't believe it was the same jacket! I was certain he ordered the wrong jacket, but in fact, the jacket was highly downgraded and the price increased. When you hold it up to the light you can clearly see right through the nylon and there are minimal feathers present. No feathers = cold. Highly disappointed with LLBean on this one - they had a great thing and were selling like hotcakes so they cheapened up the product and raised the price? :-(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and Sleek!! I just received my jacket after taking the 2 day shipping for an extra $15 which was worth it! I have ordered tings before with expedited shipping only to have them fall short but not this time. I I was a little concerned as to whether or not the jacket would fit true to size. I ordered the Large regular, 34-35 arm length and I'm 5'11 226. The jacket fit perfectly with just enough room to spare. I live in Atlanta and it does get cooler down into the high 20's and 30's during the winter so this coat will be perfect and will travel well when I fly north for business as a coat I can wear after hours with jeans. I will buy another soon. I.C.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dramatic loss of quality. I bought this jacket last year in small for backcountry use and was impressed by it's construction and performance. I just bought a medium for around town and it's a completely different jacket. Last year's model has a pronounced loft in each of the cells, and a nice classic down jacket feel. The new model has a feel and appearance similar to my Nano Puff jacket, whisper thin and not very substantial. The difference is remarkable. While the attached photo has a slightly skewed perspective, the difference is genuinely that striking. Sadly, I recommend you look elsewhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great if you know it's limitations When I first got this jacket I loved it! Then I noticed 2 small holes in the back. Moving forward, I'm on my third jacket now and got reimbursed by beans excellent customer service! The jacket I have now has no defects, but the out material is so thin/fragile that I just had a down flower poke through, not a seem, but the actual jacket. The feather stem pocked through but left such a small hole you can't see it and no other features come out of it. I love this jacket but know its limitations, no brushing into a tree branch or a bush at that, stay away from heat, and know it's fragile. I would buy one again especially knowing the limitations now :-)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Upsetting quality First for the positives. Very warm and lightweight for packing. Unfortunately I am writing this review fresh in from another disappointing quality issue that will leave me back at the store. This jacket is not worth the cost. My first one lasted for two day hikes before the seams fell apart and feathers escaped every time I moved. My second one has been with me on two day hikes and I have worn it about ten times for daily wear. The elastic in the cuffs has failed already! Extremely disappointed in the quality. It's not up to the standards of LLBean. I will be returning this second one and not replacing it again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sadly Unacceptable I bought this jacket before a trip over the holidays to New Jersey. I thought it looked great and fit very well. However, after a week of fairly mild, wet weather, I found it was a total bust as far as warmth was concerned. I think it was well made, but sadly lacking in down. I could hold it up to the light and see through it! Good in the airplane and airport, but useless in the wind outdoors, This is the first piece of LL Bean apparel I have found totally unsatisfactory. I went to the Paramus Park Mall LL Bean store and exchanged it for the Goose Down Jacket, which is really great. The staff at Paramus Park Mall were great and the store was a gem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight, packable - not warm I bought this for an early season camping trip (Late May, Pecos Wilderness, 10000 feet ASL). Temps were in the mid 60s during the day, but once the sun dropped the thermometer hit 30 at sunset. Sitting in camp, with jeans, wool socks, a hat, this "jacket" and a long sleeve shirt, I was cold. At 30 degrees. This is definitely not a winter jacket for everyday use. For use as a ski layer, maybe under a shell and over a long shirt and vest, would be ok. Also, the down fill was pretty weak. If you hold the jacket up to the light, you can see through it.
