Rated 5 out of 5 by gdawg55 from Great Coat This is my second LL Bean Field Coat. My first one had the primaloft lining and was purchased back in the early 90's. This coat served me well for many years, but down south the extra lining was a tad too much. After losing some weight, my L field coat no longer fit so I decided to order the cotton lined coat in M. It fits perfectly. I'm 5'10" and weigh 175lbs and the size is spot on for me. There is plenty of room for layering and the back gussets allow for ease of movement. Where I live in SC, this field coat should serve well for Fall, Winter, and Spring. Overall a great coat...though like others have mentioned, it'd be nice to have an inside pocket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by FoToEdge from Classic and Familiar I was looking for an everyday canvas casual field coat. I am both a Realtor and a Photographer and need something with good pockets. I also did not want one of those nylon-plastic jackets that make me sweat like a pig even in 30 or 40 degree weather. This one works in temperatures up to about 45 or 50 degrees. I hope L.L. Bean can make the same canvas jacket with NO Lining at all for use into early summer. On both jackets, I would prefer a thick brass zipper in addition to the buttons. Also it should have at least one inside pocket for wallet or passport. If possible, brass zippers on the 2 top open pockets would slow down pick-pocketers when roaming through city streets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by kzhockey from Incorrect sizing As a long time LL Bean customer, I was very disappointed with the sizing of this coat. I can understand if the fit is slightly off and therefore not the right product for an individual. But in this case, the 'M' fit was way off the mark. I am 5'9" and 150 lbs, and always have success with 'M' sized outerwear. This coat is extremely LARGE for a size 'M'. Not even close to a reasonable fit. My son also tried it on, and he is slightly bigger than me and always wears size 'M' (shirts, outerwear). LL Bean should reassess the sizing of this coat. For now, I will be shopping elsewhere for outerwear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CanyonRimRanch from comfortable and great pockets for farmers /rancher This is fourth one of these i have had. Great barn coat for winter or fall wear. I get one size too big because i wear polarfleece hooded sweater or jacket under it during the winter. I like it because it is long and doesnt pull up when i bend over plus it covers my butt! It also has wonderful pockets to carry cell phone, gloves, a flashlight, tools or small knives for hay strings. The only complaint i have is that the buttons are poorly sewn on with weak thread. Always have to resew them. i dont buy the womens coat because i cant get the polarfleece on under it and the pockets arent near as good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by tem321 from Field coat First, let me say that I Love LL Bean. I had one of these jackets in the late 80s. It was the best in class jacket for a generation of college kids. Sadly, this new version is more fashion than function. It’s like Bean tried to copy J Crew’s old barn jacket. Gone is the functional game bag( good for holding lots of things) and now there is this ugly plaid fabric. Gone are actual sizes and now they have basic - s/m/land Xl. Gone is the distinctive green corduroy cuff and collar as well as the bullet proof canvas cloth. Bring back the classic, toss out the fashion statement!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Oldcoach from A Proud Tradition! I've wanted this coat for several years now. I purchased it during the summer sale and wore it to a HS Football game last night for the first time as the cooler temps have finally come to North Texas. With a light layer underneath, the coat is perfect. Don't let the lack of an inside pocket keep you from buying this coat because that's not a good reason. I was able to secure my cell phone and wallet with the pockets available and somehow came home with all of it intact! The coat is well priced and is a great quality item that will last a very long time. It also represents "a tradition" not affected by the times. You will like the fit as well as the look!

Rated 2 out of 5 by acarologist from History doesn't always repeat itself I bought this coat last year and soon realized that it runs a poor second to my original L.L.Bean field jacket (18 years old). The new coat is overly heavy, there is no front zipper, the buttons feel like they're about to come off, the coat fabric is stiff and cold, the front pockets are too shallow for safe use, the lining (definitely NOT Thinsulate as in the older coat) sticks to anything that I happen to be wearing under it, there is no inside pocket, and the sleeve lining sticks out when I fold back the cuffs. I'm thinking about taking both the old and new coats to my tailor and asking her to sew the new collar on the old coat (the only compromised feature on it). Anyone out there interested in buying a new field coat with no collar?

Rated 5 out of 5 by PhotoImageMaker1 from Fifteen Years and Counting! I've worn this jacket for 15 years ago and it still looks and feels great! The color is fading which only adds to its overall great look. There are a few worn areas across the shoulder from carrying a padded camera backpack but otherwise, it looks great. My lone regret is that there isn't an inside pocket for a wallet or phone. The chest pocket is small and not ideal for carrying most items but the double side pockets are more than adequate. I recommend this jacket for use in the fall over a sweater or a heavy shirt. Would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a good fall coat.
