Rated 5 out of 5 by Shorelinemom from Hasn't worn out- after many years I am finally ordering a new Junior pack, and I hope it lasts like the one I bought about eight years ago. That one isn't even truly worn out, I am just tired of it and want a new color! I am a teacher and a mom so I use this pack for my school stuff and to haul around my essentials for my kids. It's perfect. I've also used it to travel and find it sufficient in size for everything I would want on the plane. I'm glad to see the new bags have a water bottle holder-something I always wished the old one had. When it gets dirty, I throw it in the washing machine. Buy this for your kids or yourself!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Kkeegan from Zipper problems I bought this for my son, who is beginning kindergarten. I always had L.L. Bean backpacks for school, so I was excited to buy him his first. He loves the bag, and the color. But I have to say, I'm not impressed with the main zipper. The first time I tried to un-zip it, the flap that covers the zipper got caught. I thought maybe it was because the bag was empty. So I filled the bag, and the same issue happened again. Overall, I'm disappointed and wish I would have selected a different backpack. I might look into modifying the flap so it stays away from the zipper. On a positive note, it does feel nice and sturdy..as I expect an L.L. Bean backpack to be!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Txmom2017 from Waterproof Created an account to leave a review. We got this backpack in the summer 2016 for my daughter---no water bottle pocket. Yesterday, I found that her water bottle had leaked in the second pocket and there was 1/2 cup water at least in the pocket. Much to my delight, all of her papers and notebooks in the main compartment was perfectly dry. Not even the fabric felt wet in the main compartment. I feel this indicates great quality in construction & materials. In world of cutting corners and broken promises, it's nice to still be able to get a good quality product that lasts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ebedaz from Sturdy but 1 big flaw I have bought two of these for my son, the 1st one he had for two years and still uses it for trips. I bought a plain color for him for 3rd grade and it's held up amazing. However, we will be going to a new brand for 4th grade and for my daughter starting VPK. I'm just so tired of trying to fight the zipper when it gets stuck on the flap that hangs over it.I get that the flap is supposed to protect the whole zipper component but when kids are moving fast the zipper gets stuck. We must fight with it 3x per week! Sometimes it is so stuck we have to use dish soap or wd40 to get it unstuck. I've also tried leaving the flap folded up but through the course of the day it falls back down. It's just not worth it anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by aymesb from Well-made, Excellent for Preschoolers We love this backpack for our preschoolers. It's large enough to fit full size folders, a lunchbox, an extra change of clothes, but is the perfect size for my littles (4.5 and 2.5) - not too big, just right! We bought one for our son last year and just bought another one for little sister. And we love that it now comes with a water bottle pocket on the side - so helpful. Thanks for listening to your customers' feedback, LLBean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by CJB85 from I tell everyone to buy this I purchased this backpack after putting in an embarrassing amount of time researching the best backpacks for young kids. I cannot say enough how happy we are with it! This bag has taken a daily beating by my kiddo, but there are no signs of wear and tear. She tosses it around the bus, the playground, the gym, and our home. It carries her homework folder, her lunch box, a blanket, and various odds and ends she stashed in the pockets. l love the pocket for her water bottle. It holds her 10oz kids Sip by S’well bottle from Target perfectly. It is a good size for her, and there’s plenty of room to grow. When she began using it she was 4, and weighed about 35lbs. Now she is 5, has grown a couple inches and weighs 37lbs. I think she will still be using this for several years to come. She has never had a problem using the zippers or putting it on. Absolutely a great buy and made me an LLBean fan or life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Engmama from Durable Backpack; Good, Compact Size for Wee Ones My elder child, who is now in the 3rd grade, has this backpack and has used it for 2 years. I purchased this backpack make again for my wee child, who is in the 1st grade. I am well pleased with this backpack for the following reasons: 1. Durable: my elder child uses (abuses) it like a normal 1st - 3rd grader, and it has no signs of disrepair. It has traveled with us camping, 3000-mile road trips, and on flights. My wee child has only used the new one for less than a month. 2. Size: this backpack is big enough to fit school work (8x11.5" papers) and a lunchbox without trouble, AND it's not so big to drown my child; it seems to fit the back of both of my primary- and elementary-aged children. 3. Cost: LLBean has priced this backpack quite reasonably, especially with its longevity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheGoodnightLife from Durable & functional This is the third LL Bean backpack I’ve bought between my two children. The Junior size is perfect for my rising kindergartener, and I expect it to hold up for at least 2 school years, as my daughter’s did. Honestly, her’s wasn’t even worn out, she just needed a bigger size. She still uses her junior sized for sleepovers at Nana’s house and carrying misc. stuff. Highly, highly recommend these backpacks. They are not any more expensive than the plastic ones from big box stores, but will last SO much longer. (Left-3 years old, middle-1 year old, right-brand new)
