Rated 4 out of 5 by PapaBear45 from Well made, duel use, but narrow sleeves Very happy with this jacket for my five year old, but the sleeve opening are too narrow to use easily for layered snow cloths. If it opened wider there would have been a lot less fussing when trying to put mittens back on. We basically had to take the jacket off (in the deep cold in the back country), put her mittens on, then put the jacket back on in order to keep the mitten openings from getting snow in them. We made it work, but it would have been a lot easier with an extra inch of room. Having said that it is still a solid, well made shell.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Cardinal39 from Layers don't zip together! I bought this to go with the packable down jacket that my daughter has been wearing all fall. She loves that jacket and I wanted to use it in combination with this shell. When the description says that it "snaps" into the double-up system, that's all it does. There is a snap at the neck and a snap in each sleeve. I was surprised to find that there is no way to zip the two layers together. So when putting on the jacket, your child will have to zip twice...first the inside layer and then the shell. Other than that it is a very well made jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NCOutdoorDad from Great Shell I camp and hike regularly and consider myself a bit of a gear head. I day hike with the family, but typically spend three to four days and cover 20-60 miles, depending on terrain, when I am out with my friends. I spend a lot of time at Linville Gorge and the Pisgah National Forest in NC. When my ten-year-old daughter expressed an interest in making longer trips "our thing," I was delighted. I was also very aware that going cheap or just going wrong on gear could lead to a bad experience that might end any interest she had in roughing it me. I am very pleased that I decided to get a Girls' Pathfinder Waterproof Shell Jacket. My daughter and have gone into Linville Gorge three times since the jacket arrived, including overnights and daytime temperatures from the 50s down to the 20s. My daughter was comfortable in the shell alone on the move over lots of elevation and rough terrain as a windbreaker/rain jacket and over a Girls Ultralight Down Jacket over easier terrain or at rest. There is plenty of room if you get the right size to layer under the shell to get the right combination for the conditions. I spent a lot of money on gear for myself and I can tell you with confidence this shell is a bargain for what you get. Most important, my daughter loves it! Thank you L.L. Bean!
