Rated 5 out of 5 by GlobalStroller from 32 countries, 4 camel treks I bought this bag 6 years ago. I have used it for short 1 week trips and for extended journeys up to 5 months. Along with a shoulder bag this has been the only piece of luggage I travel with. (The fine art of rolling up your clothes helps.) It easily fits in overhead compartments so I never have to check baggage. Downside- maybe a bit heavy because of the leather and the shoulder straps tend to curl up. But I can fit everything I need including a laptop into this bag. I taken this trusty bag on 4 camel treks and it certainly has been abused but has totally proven to be well constructed. Plus it looks cool. Wouldn't leave home without it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tyler420 from Needed a new bag for classes, travel, and hiking.. The bag comes as pictured. The waxed canvas is nearly weatherproof and the leather is of decent quality. All the buckles fit their straps easily and there is plenty of room in the main compartment for most anything. The side pouches are the perfect size for a yeti cup. The straps are as soft and comfy as you would imagine. All and all a great bag, even if it comes in near 3 pounds empty. If you like traditional rough and tough material, the heavy canvas and leather are definitely for you. WARNING: there is no laptop pouch. Not a huge deal for me as mine is big and made of steel. Those of you with mac's may need a case or something if you're rough with you bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pacoman1121 from Great LL Bean Product This is the best rucksack I have ever owned and I'm a retired serviceman. I've had this pack for several years and it wears well. I fill it to the brim for my adventures and it still fits under the airplane seat. the computer/tablet compartment is a nice modern addition. I keep my passport in the zippered compartment of the closing flap for ease and convenience. The netted compartment inside the outer bag holds my keys with a key-clasp which is good because I forget about my keys until I'm back home. It it a sharp looking pack that's a cut above the rest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lakai from Great Ruck!! This ruck held up pretty good. Packed the 10C's and still had room for more for an overnight. Went on a 16k hike with a little over 30lbs and it felt balanced. The shoulder straps felt padded and handled moisture well. I would only suggest adding a sternum strap to improve comfort and stability regarding to underarms. Other than that, it's a strong durable waxed-canvas bag with beautiful leather straps and brass that will have the vintage look in no time. Hope this helps...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Greenbag from Big green bag Its a big green bag. Photos show it as this light green almost grey but in reality its about 5 times darker than the photo here. Which is fine. Gorgeous quality. Heavy. Looks very nice. Not a fan of actual buckles to get into the bag though. Honestly wish they were snaps that look like buckles. Thats about the only negative i can say about it. Not disappointed with the purchase and thats even considering i bought it in canadian dollars which is like .70¢ per US dollar and paid for brokerage fees and taxes. So i paid much more for the bag than a fellow american would pay. Would buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Matt from Not durable I hardly used this bag, and only ever as carry-on luggage. The waxed fabric has just disintegrated! It is completely unusable, I have huge holes everywhere, and LL Bean no longer stand behind their products. Will probably cut off the hardware and make my own bag with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OldTimer from not durable I have to agree with other people who found the material falls apart. The canvas doesn't wear out like every other article I've owned, but rather crumbles, even in places where there wouldn't be wear, behind the side pockets for instance. The threads of the leather stitches fray constantly. Trimming doesn't deter this. About two years is all it took for any of this to show. It's a good looking design and received compliments. The pocket sizes are good. The strap and latches plus the zippers gets to be a hassle. There's a curved plastic support in the back of the bag that causes causes the bag on it's own to face over, it has to be leaned nearly forty five degree angle to prevent this. The price was too high for it's low durability. If it was made with another material I'd consider another purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by steverino724 from Great, quality product I started using this as a railroad grip after using a Redoxx bag that was just too big. I carry a lot of stuff and cannot believe how much fits. I can fit a two way radio, binoculars, brake stick on the side, sunglass case, headphone case, dopp kit, books and paperwork, laptop in a pretty thick laptop case, clothes, reflective vest, jacket, electronic chargers and a railroad lantern. I love the vintage look and it sits nicely on my back. I can walk around comfortably for a while. Other bags I have used in the railroad industry either dont hold up or are uncomfortably impractical. I can see getting some good years out of this and thinking of ordering another for the day it finally does give out.
