    Men's L.L.Bean Upcountry Waxed-Cotton Down Jacket is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Like it but.. I just bought this jacket to replace a very old wax duster and the down jacket I wore underneath it. This jacket has a great unbulky feel and I like the fit and color but it flunked the toughness test rite off. One trip thru brushy country and it snagged an tore. I am disappointed the fabric is so flimsy! My 25yr old plus Duster has been used hard for everything from building Barbwire fence to hard backcountry riding and has never torn. I wouldn't recommend this jacket to anyone wanting to actually work or play hard in it. It's great for doing chores or running around town tho. I will be returning this one and will keep looking for a more suitable jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket for price I bought this jacket seeking something functional, while preserving style and character. I viewed this as an affordable alternative to some of the simpler Barbour jackets available. I live in Massachusetts, and the winters are cold. This jacket holds up well in windy, single-degree weather—even with just a t-shirt underneath. It does run big; a Medium fits me perfectly and I normally take a large. What others say about its gathering of lint is 100% true, but I found that buying one of those old-fashioned red velvet lint brushes does the trick perfectly. Adhesive lint rollers won’t work. Highly recommend. Love this jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket if the Zipper works, I had problems Update: It was raining today and the jacket worked like a champ! It is light weight, quite flexible material I stayed dry and warm. The Zipper worked perfectly so I am giving the overall rating 4 stars. I am holding back one star because of the problems with the other two and the fact that the zipper could be better. This last coat seems better overall than the other two. I do not know why the zipper wouldn't work very well the first time but as I said, Today it worked quite well. I hope that it stays that way. I like the Jacket a lot. I tried uploading a couple of photo's of the coat after I returned from my walk but for some reason they wouldn't post.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High end without the sticker shock This jacket is very reminiscent of the high-end Very expensive (>$500) designer wax cotton jackets. Made with British Millerain fabric (wish there was an authenticity patch) this jacket is unbeatable! I agree with previous reviews the front zipper oddly malfunctioned at first. Now it seems to work fine and I would recommend a small leather pull tab to help. Truly for the price I wouldn't hesitate. Great fall, winter, and first week of spring jacket. Fit is good with enough room in the chest to move and to layer one hoodie. Arm length is perfect so raising the arms don't expose inches of wrist. Cuffs are good size to accommodate gloves. Stop reading and just buy the jacket it's a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Down with style and durability First impression was that I was sent the wrong color, the dark khaki is a very dark brown, almost black. From what I read in other reviews, someone should be adjusting the pictures shown online and in the catalog. I was outdoors before I could tell it was a very dark brown, not black. The jacket is well made, I ordered the large tall to get a little extra length and very glad I did, the tall seems like it should be average length. I am 5'11" and 200lbs, and this fits me very well. Overall, very comfortable and warm, out all day and late evening with temperatures below 20 and no cold gets in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I REALLY like the jacket, BUT.. I REALLY like the jacket, BUT.. I have a small fitting issue also, as many others here do. I'm, 5'10 1/2, 160 lbs. and I wear a medium jacket. I can wear this but it is just a bit snug. I'm afraid if I got a large it would be too big for me. The designers of this jacket seem to have taken a medium shell and built all the insulation and lining onto the inside of that rather than taking a medium lining and added everything on the outside of it. I am keeping it.. looks like it's going to be just the ticket for the cold, damp days ahead, and it is a handsome, well-made jacket! I'm just going to have to pay attention to my diet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right Exactly what I was looking for, a down coat that was not in a nylon or polyester shell. Waxed cotton shell is nice, not too stiff but sturdy fabric. Warm as it should be and needed to be here in North Idaho mountains. Very comfortable/warm without a lot of layers under it. As mentioned in other reviews, the sleeves are a bit long, but not in a malfunction way, just a good winter coat way that lets you move about without your wrists being bare to the cold and snow. I found it well thought out and just right for my winter activities. Riding the 4 wheeler, moving snow with the old tractor, and nice enough to wear to town. Body length is also just right, not long like a parka, but not short like a bomber style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made my son very happy! My son was looking for a jacket he could wear in cold and drizzly conditions and that could dress up his college kid wardrobe a bit. I ordered this jacket for him to try out and he loves it. Warm, waterproof, very nice looking for the utility of it. The fleece lined hand warmer pockets were what cinched the deal for him! Sturdy construction and many great features. I was able to buy his during a 25% off sale, but certainly represents a good value. He is 6’1” and 170 lbs, 32 waist, 35 sleeve, 39 tall suit coat. We got him a large, because he usually needs the sleeve length, and it fits him nicely, with room inside for a bulky layer underneath, but the body is not way too loose.
