Ultralight 850 Down Jacket
In a class all its own, our revolutionary 850 jacket defies cold, wet weather - and comparison. We combined all the best outerwear technology - innovative DownTek fill, 850-fill-power and a Pertex Quantum nylon shell - for unbeatable performance.
Size & Fit
- Closer fit with a slightly slimmer waist.
- Slightly Fitted.
- Best with midweight layer.
- Falls at hip.
Why We Love It
We start with premium 850 down, which provides more warmth for its weight, and then treat it with revolutionary DownTek that allows our jackets to do what many others can’t – keep you warm, even in wet conditions. Unlike ordinary down that soaks up moisture, ours absorbs 33% less moisture and dries 66% faster so it stays light, lofty and warm. On the outside, the game-changing Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven to resist the elements.
Fabric & Care
- 850-fill-power goose down is one of the highest on the market, delivering more warmth for weight.
- Premium Pertex Quantum nylon shell is tightly woven for wind and weather-resistance.
- Certified by the Responsible Down Standard, ensuring the humane treatment of animals.
- Machine wash and dry.
- Elastic cuffs seal out icy gusts.
- Media storage with headphone ports.
- External zip handwarmer pockets.
- Virtually weightless style easily packs away into its own pocket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Carol27 from Love the color I bought this in the Ruby/coral, and the color actually sold the jacket. I also love that it is so light weight. What I don't love is a $200 jacket with dark down spots all over it. Not sure I can live with that. I was looking for something to wear on the "in between" days. My down jacket would keep me warm at the North pole, so given our mild winter; I need something else to take me through spring. Also, what happened to sizing? I am a small to medium, but all of a sudden they don't fit in the shoulders anymore. I bought a large to get a comfortable fit, but now it is big everywhere else. Not sure if this is a keeper yet! Really expect more from LL Bean.

Rated 3 out of 5 by anniejn from Not Very Warm! I love this jacket, and I wear it all the time -- as long as the temperature is above freezing. I don't understand how LL Bean can say it's good down to 25 degrees below 0! Even my husband, who's much more cold hardy than I, doesn't wear his ultralight 850 down jacket when the temperature drops much below freezing. I do recommend this jacket for traveling, since it can be stuffed into one of its pockets to form a reasonably small package. It's ideal for plane travel during the winter from a cold departure point to a warm arrival point. However, if you want a warm jacket for below-freezing temperatures, this jacket isn't it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by SuzyMontana from Has all the features I started looking for a down jacket last spring and decided to wait until fall to see the new features that would come out in 2015. I checked out all the name brands we all know, but only this LL Bean jacket has all the features that I wanted: water-resistant down, 850 fill, a sturdier shell, length that went below my upper hips, a cord to tighten the bottom edge, not a boxy shape, affordable, and pretty colors. I ordered both a small and x-small to see which fit my 5'6" 110lbs. The x-small is perfect and allows room for a thick sweater underneath. The brilliant blue is a beautiful color. It's too early to wear it and report on the warmth, but I'm confident it will be just what I need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 2inNewEngland from love this jacket My husband and I snowshoe and hike no matter what the weather so I bought this jacket for both of us(his men's is just as great) for our anniversary. We love them! They are soft, not too puffy and totally warm. It is so nice to not have to wear so many layers. We live in New England and this has been one cold winter, but with these jackets it was a joy to be outside. My husband even wears his skiing. While shopping the other day I had 3 ladies comment on my jacket and 1 even tried it on. I have the turquoise colored one but wanted a purple as well but they are all out. I think I'm going to try the hooded one in purple.

Rated 2 out of 5 by TinaCM from Sizing is off I normally wear a size 14 and I’m 5’10”. I originally ordered a similar jacket in men’s because I thought it would fit better. Sadly, an XXL was too small ( my husband who wears a men’s large couldn’t even wear the XXL) so I ordered a women’s jacket in 3X (supposedly fits 22-24). I wanted to be able to wear a sweater with it. When the jacket arrived, I loved the color and light weight of it. But when I tried it on, the sleeves were so small that they were tight even with a thin shirt. The body of the coat was too big but no where near a size 22-24. I have a friend who wears an 18 and she couldn’t even zip the coat. Very disappointed overall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PonyMom3 from Disappointed in Fit The Ultralight 850 Down Jacket is amazing. I liked it so much that I wanted to buy a third one and was happy to see that there was Petite sizing. Unfortunately, after trying different sizes, I could not find one that fit like my last year's Misses' Regular Large. The Petite was too long, even longer than my last year's Misses' Large and too roomy. Even the Misses' Large was bigger all around. I also tried the Petite Medium and Misses' Medium but neither worked. Since I wear Petite Medium in my fleece jackets, with room to spare, I am wondering why the sizing is not consistent among products. I still love the product but not the sizing for my body shape.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LJLW from Disappointing Love the lime color, but the first time I wore the jacket, friends asked what was "all over the jacket". Customer service rep said it was dark feathers showing through and to move them around with my fingers so they would be less noticeable. Since there were a couple dozen spots, I elected to exchange for another jacket that I hoped would be an improvement. The second jacket also had spots, albeit fewer, so I decided to keep this jacket. However, it seems that using all light colored feathers would solve the problem rather than having the customer fiddle with the feathers in a $199 jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ShellyL from Buying another I bought this jacket for my first trip to the UK & Scotland this past few weeks. I was worried about being cold. This jacket went above my expectations and I didn't even bring out the other jacket I brought. This jacket was light, but very warm, especially with a base layer. I loved the way I could pack it up. Fit great (I'm a curvy girl) XL was a bit large but worked and looked good. I bought the Lilac color and had a lot of complements. I'm buying a black one for daily commuting to and from work..it get's cold on my walk from transit to job, but I have just found a new "go to" jacket. Thank you LL Bean...I hope you come up with a vest next!
