      • Full cut for layering.
      • Traditional Fit: Relaxed through the chest, sleeve and waist.
      Why We Love It
It’s our traditional wool shirt, but with an upgrade. We took our premium quality, tightly woven wool-and-nylon blend and combined it with an exceptionally warm PrimaLoft lining. The result is a shirt built for the outdoors.

Men's Maine Guide Shirt with PrimaLoft is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 135.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just get it At the southern range of the Rockies the wind can be fierce and makes a cold day seriously colder. This shirt stand up to it all. The lining blocks the wind, the wool is heavy enough for comfort and the shirt/jacket is well made. Pockets are large enough to carry a smart phone. Collar turns up far enough to offer adequate protection. And above all it is reliably warm. The only complaints are that the shirt is not made in the US of A (but that hardly qualifies as a complaint anymore) and the color in green check is better suited to the mall than the woods. No matter. I wear it all the time everywhere. That is, after all, the most important consideration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Obvious obstinacy I've now owned 2 of these shirts, which are indisputably warm. My reasons for lopping two stars off the shirt's rating are: 1. One star for being too short in the torso. I'm 5'11, and the Medium is just not long enough. 2. No handwarmer pockets cost another star...this isn't a tuck-in 'regular' shirt, no, it's a thick, heavyweight shirt-jac worn on the outside of one's pants. As such, the lack of handwarmer pockets is egregious. LLB could easily fix the length problem by offering the Medium in a Tall, which they do with many other shirts. It seems to me the lack of handwarmers is also an obvious shortcoming...I assume the product sells well, so LLB obstinately refuses to fix it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket! This jacket is the perfect sweet spot. Living here in New England, it keeps me perfectly warm even on the coldest days with a tshirt and scotch plaid flannel. the primaloft really warms this up from just a regular unlined wool jacket. no wind gets through. i am 6 foot, 185 lbs and this fits quite well, the arms and body are a bit wide, but this is good for if you need an extra layer on extra cold days. i hate thick, puffy winter coats, so this works out very well. my only suggestion would be to darken the green color to a loden color. this would make it much better fit for hunting, as the green is very bright, but it looks nice either way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sizing is big I purchased the green shirt/jack in green plaid in Sept 2015. Colors are great. I ordered my normal XL, 34-35 sleeve, but, this shirt was big on me. Sleeves 3" too long, and, I could've easily overlapped the front 8-10 ". I went to swap it for a L, but, the L in green was out of stock. Well, I've been checking stock frequently since then, with no L in stock. They finally had it now, so, I called and ordered. They gave me the $28 discount I got in 2015, so I'm paying the same. Will get a full refund on the XL I'm returning. Not only does LL Bean have great merchandise, the customer service is A++. This is a great shirt/jack, although, for TX, this is not a shirt, it's a jacket. Therefore, hand pockets would've made it perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, but... Overall this is a great addition to my outdoor gear. Anything wool is going to be warm, water-repellent, and probably better than a synthetic. The product appears to be well-made and of good quality. A couple of things which a potential buyer should be aware of, however: 1: Size. I have worn Medium shirts, jackets, etc. all my adult life. When ordering Bean jackets I have to order "small" to get a fit. This was also true of a heavier wool parka I bought from Bean a couple of years ago. 2: Buttons instead of a zipper - slower to fasten 3: No side slash pockets. In fairness, this is billed as a "shirt", but it is actually more like a light jacket. Works fine down to about 40 degrees and then requires layering beyond that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Shirt All I can say is that if you live in the north , you need this shirt. I bought this shirt as a layer to my wool maine guide coats with windstopper for late season bowhunting. I spent multiple mornings in below freezing temps with just this shirt with under armour cold weather base layer and a breathable cotton sweater shirt , I did not even need my outer coat ! Also it runs big , I take a large in everything and a medium fits perfectly with some room to spare. Yes it is pricey but is worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shirt I purchased a LG/Tall but found it a bit snug in the shoulders. I liked the shirt so much that instead of sending it back I ordered another one (XL). I wear the XL for hunting and fishing (which I can comfortably layer under) and the other one for everything else. The nylon lining allows this shirt to move smoothly in the torso and the elbows over whatever shirt you have on under it - (much unlike a regular wool shirt). The lining / insulation also make it windproof and warmer. Best wool shirt I own!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as warm or durable as expected. I have owned this shirt for a year now, and this shirt (really more of a coat) was not as warm or durable as I had expected. The sizing is also a bit odd. I am 5'11, 175 and I ended up with a small which still allowed for lots of room underneath for a hooded sweatshirt. After brushing lightly against a branch in the woods, the wool outer layer tore easily and I realized how thin the wool was. I love the look of the cobalt and black, but I was hoping for a warmer, more durable product.
