Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4th Time Buying Them! I have bought these four times over the years for my husband and now my son! Absolutely no complaints here! I buy tall for my husband who is 6'2" and has long arms and torso. My husband's job is working 10-12 hours outside every day of the year in the Northeast. This is his "coat" from fall through early spring! My son goes to school in Northern Maine, and now this is the only thing he wears outside! Extremely warm with no bulk! The color of the "Deep Wood Green Heather" in my opinion looks more like a deep brown. I wash them on delicate in cold water, then reshape, and lay flat to dry. Never any shrinkage and still looks brand new!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK but not like my previously purchased sweater I purchased a commando sweater about twenty years ago and still own it and wear it. It developed a couple of moth holes last summer which I repaired but I decided to buy an new one. The new model is significantly lighter in weight, not nearly as closely knitted and a shade or two different in color. The wool on the new one is a bit like rag wool but this might just be the looser knit. Its not as warm as the old version either. However, the new sweater because of its lighter color and looser knit looks less military and might be more appropriate for indoor wear. I would recommend this sweater; its not as good as it used to be, but then what is?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent trim fit sweater Fantastic sweater. I am 6’1” and 160 lb and the medium fit perfectly (not baggy at all). Sleeve length was perfect as well, with the cuffs turned back as shown in the photos. The lambswool is softer than most I have owned, and although I still wear it with a thin long sleeve undershirt, I don’t find it scratchy around the neck and cuffs at all. Also, per recommendations on the Deep Woods Green color being more brown, I ordered the Loden Green instead. It’s exactly as I hoped and a bit darker green than the picture shows. I liked it so much I got the Navy one as well, which is also darker in person. Overall I highly recommend, and I always look forward to wearing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compared to an original I have a wool commando style sweater made in England that a friend purchased from England many years ago. I enjoy wearing this old sweater while working in my woods. Compared to this sweater the LL Bean, size small, is about an 1 inch longer in the sleeves , 1.5 inches shorter in the waist, and narrower in the shoulders. I prefer the wider shoulders of the original but otherwise the LL Bean is a good fit for me (5' 5" tall, 135 lbs). The Loden is a very close color match to the original military green. The Merino wool of the LL Bean is much more comfortable against the skin. Only time will tell if it holds up as well as the original.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Commando Sweater Commando sweaters are my favorite LL bean sweaters. Warm, good fit ( my size is large tall- I am 6’ and 209 ibs (yea I know COVID weight, I was 199 before I spent a year eating ice cream, it seemed like a good idea at the time) . Back to the sweater, the gray is a new color and I really like it. You can’t go wrong with any color though, black, blue, heather, green, they have all kept me toasty warm on those cold nights selling Christmas Trees for my Rotary Club. I am pretty sure Daniel Craig saw me in my sweater and decided to get one in blue for his last Bond movie. An excellent choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional and Looks Great Sweater fits a little more trim than my other various sweaters in men's large. I'm pretty tall with a very long torso and XL reg fit perfectly. The sleeves can roll to adjust, and the torso is cut a good bit longer than a typical dress sweater which is perfect for me. Unless you're 6'5"+, you probably don't even need the tall size. As some negative reviews say, the wool is not super luxurious or soft, and it a little bit itchy if you aren't used to wool, but it's thick, and most importantly WARM. This is a functional garment, not a fashion statement. It keeps me warm even down to 40deg. Worth every penny.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A pale reflection of former glory I agree with what other reviewers have said. This is not a British MoD wolly pully, but a Chinese copy, made with inferior wool. It looks well enough when new, but after a short term of wear, it is no longer presentable. I can only wear mine for doing household chores and gardening. I suggest you look for the real thing, available at not a not much higher price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Made In China First I would like to say this is not an actual wool commando sweater. It is a replica of a wool commando sweater. I have an actual wool commando sweater purchased in the 1980's. It is made in the United Kingdom and very heavy and warm. It is getting old so I was looking for a replacement. This sweater is made in China and is lightweight in comparison. Not that it's not a nice garment. It would look great at the coffee house or wine bar. Makes me look like someone who spends time outdoors. However, I was looking for a sweater that would actually keep me warm when I spend a cold day outdoors.
