Men's Original Field Coat with Wool/Nylon Liner is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 314.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit, weight and warmth. Great fit with a bit of room for a sweater, but doesn't feel "baggy". Length is just right, about mid-thigh, which allows for free movement without exposure to wind and cold. Wore this Field Coat with a down vest underneath comfortably in 17degF weather to clear snow off cars, patio and driveway - perfect warmth and weight. Rugged duck cotton and hefty seams, should last for years and years. The wool/nylon liner is thick, soft and warm. Sleeves contain "polartech" covered with quilted nylon (again, nice and warm). Corduroy collar and cuffs are a nice touch. Surprisingly well-made at this price point. Another solid winner from LL Bean.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what it used to be. I had one of these coats years ago that I became nostalgic for so I thought it would be nice to have one again. Although this one looks like the old one, at least in the photo, the fabric and the the color are not the same. The old one had a sturdiness that made it feel authentic, like an LL Bean product should, and the color was nice and rich. The new fabric is not only softer but in addition it's prewashed and the color has been made to fade and it is not as it appears in the photo on the web site. The color in real life is just beige and not that deep redish brown. I returned it and I was really dissappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just About Perfect I chose the title to reflect that nothing is perfect. That said, I haven’t found the area of imperfection. I got this coat via UPS yesterday. It was waiting for me to get home from a basketball game in a neighboring town. When I opened the packaging I was greated with exactly the jacket I wanted. I wore it this morning and it was just right! Fits right. Looks right. Weight is just right. Warmth is fine for our South Arkansas cold wave. And there’s is room for a heavy sweater, as advertised. I have encountered zero defects in construction. Haven’t worn it in rainy weather but if it performs in rain as well as in cold, it is as near perfect as it can be.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Field coat Nice jacket. Seems like good quality. Haven't worn it in our winter yet. My suggestion is they incorporate a 2-way zipper as if history proves itself, the buttons will come loose. Also, a zipper would certainly help keep out more of the cold wind, whereas the buttons do have gaps. Because of the way the coat is made now, I cannot add a zipper. Too bad. If it had a zipper, I would give it 5 out of 5. For now, I will give it a 3-4. Also, no inside pockets...bummer. Be nice to get my phone out of the front pockets and into a more secure inside pocket. The more I'm writing, the more I'm leaning towards returning the jacket, because of the reasons stated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School Handsome Jacket This jacket is a throwback to the days of the well-made, heavy duty field coat made for the hardworking outdoorsman. It shouldn't have to meet all the modern day criteria, otherwise, buy a new fangled coat somewhere else. I'm curious how all the other guys my size like the XL. I'm 6' and 230 myself, and felt it was a bit sloppy so I exchanged it for the large and it looks almost fitted (with room to move). Remember that liner pulls out if needed fellows. Wife and daughters love it and I get a lot of compliments on it. Best yet, I don't feel like I can't beat it up. However, I liked it so much I bought a second one in the olive color to just wear bird hunting and working outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket but be careful with sizing! The short and sweet of it is this: this is a terrific jacket. Looks great, feels great. I'm 6'3" 205 and orginally ordered the Large Tall, but the sleeves and overall jacket length were about 2 inches too long for my taste. Returned and exchanged for the Large Regular and it's perfect. Bottom line, unless you're taller than 6'4" or have a sleeve length longer than 37", stick with the regular size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy! I bought this coat to use as my everyday, running errands, letting the dogs out, walking to the mailbox( I have a 400 foot driveway!), just a casual coat. I also got it because it has the nylon lined sleeves; I wear either flannel of fleece all winter and the nylon sleeves slide over those materials very well. The coat is very warm and when buttoned up all the way, keeps out the wind and can easily be unbuttoned after getting in the car. I am very pleased, would buy it again and would definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Right I had a barn coat (from a competitor) years ago and wore it until the threads wore out. Liked it but always wanted a Bean Field Coat. Well, I finally got one and am really sorry I waited. Perfect weight, fit is excellent, sizing is accurate and the under arm gussets make it so much more functional - in all, it is "just right." Nice heavy weight cotton canvas with a wool and nylon liner. Perfect for fall and winter here in the mountains of North Carolina, where we actually receive snow and ice, all winter! I really can't come up with a reason not to buy this coat. It is a home run.
