I did not wear anything under it and it kept me well shaded, relatively cool (it is a long sleeve shirt in the desert), and it wicked away sweat. The material is very soft, thin and breathable, and I love that it stretches. I'm about 230lbs and I got an XL — it was pretty large, maybe could've gotten away with a Large. I highly recommend getting one and I'd buy more if they had other colors available.
