Ultralight 850 Down Sweater, Hooded is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do you want to be warm? Warmth, quality and the aesthetic appeal. Look at this jacket, just really look at it. Ask yourself, what other jacket doesn't thermally bridge its stitching from the exterior to the interior face? Only one other jacket, and it cost 3-times the price. The hooded version still seals the neck at high-zip not allowing for the bodies heat generation to be lost through this gap - not advertised - it includes pull-ties on both sides of the jacket, fully allowing the user the both seal the top and the bottom from any heat escape. These small details are crucial in survival to cold weather situations where one needs to conserve energy and warmth that the body produces. Buy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not that warm First the good news. It is light and packs nicely into the built in pocket. Now the bad. It isn't all that warm. I don't find it as warm as Polartech 200 fleece. When I put the fleece on indoors I get warm fast but this jacket takes awhile and never makes it to the too warm level when the house in 70 degrees. In 20F weather it isn't too bad if you are active with expedition weight base layer but if there is any wind it really doesn't keep you that warm. Bottom line: if you need a jacket lighter than a fleese outer layer it is good for that but unless you need the minimum weight the fleece is the better deal and probably warmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY nice Really did not know what to expect with this purchase. This is my first foray into the "puffy" jacket world. First off, this is very light, barely know I'm wearing it. Secondly, it is warm, I would say warm, to 35 degrees with no activity and with heavy activity probably down to 0, it hasn't gotten that cold yet and we are in a warm spell here on the east coast. Third, style is great (got the grey with contrast orange on the zippers), getting many good comments on the look. Can't wait to test the "water resistance" feature. Used coupons and discount and got a great price on this as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and excellent fit. I purchased this down jacket with hood to replace a much heavier jacket that never kept me warm. Although a fraction of the weight of my old jacket, the LL Bean jacket is much warmer and with the hood up even more so. Zippers work well especially the internal pocket one with the dual pulls. I usually have trouble with fit (thin with wide shoulders and long arms), but this jacket fits perfectly. I've had a couple of feathers poke through the shell, and mistakenly pulled one out. That's the only negative so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great sweater I have now had this down sweater for about three months. We have had very cold weather this winter and lots of snow. Before the snow fell, I used the sweater as a light jacket. Now that the temperatures are hovering close to zero, I use it as a double layer with my Baxter State Parka from LLBean. Despite the cold temperatures, I have stayed very warm, even when working for hours on end shoveling snow. I especially like the lightweight, tight fitting hood because it is so warm and saves the need for wearing a hat. My advice to anyone wanting a lightweight, jacket/sweater for fall and early spring temperatures and a great second inner layer for deep cold of winter, this is the item to buy. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So light and so warm I'm amazed at the new technology of something so light that can keep you so warm in cold and windy conditions. I don't know why it's called a sweater, because it doesn't fit the image that I have of a sweater. Maybe because it's lighter than any sweater. It's great for golf in cold weather, because it doesn't interfere with my swing and it will compress into a small pouch that you can stow in your golf bag. Just zip the zipper all the way up and there no strings to deal with for the hood. I also have the Ultralight 850 Down Jacket for temperatures colder than 20 degrees F.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First Gen SUPER. This Gen HORRIBLE I was lucky enough to get a first generation with felt lined collar and pockets bucu down filling and great fit. XL was perfect. Unfortunately I got this new and “improved” version and it is horrible. No felt pockets or collar, seems like cheaper outer layer, much less down and horrible fit. XL is much smaller. So I got hooked on a super jacket that was made cheaper but have to pay same price. Why on earth ruin a super product? Oh yeah, cheaper to make, sell for same, bigger profit! Super bummer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent A little over one year ago, I purchased my first hooded down sweater. Knew from friends that had one, that it was a very versatile garment to have. I absolutely loved the sweater - was one of the most practical garments that I have purchased in recent years. Travels beautifully in its own stowaway zippered pocket - from cold nights camping in the Adirondacks to chilly nights in northern Florida. Wore it constantly Fall through Spring- either alone when weather permitted with or without a wool sweater underneath, or under a heavier jacket or vest in mid-winter. Continued to wear it through this Fall until my dog decided to chew about five inches off the bottom. I was so upset when my dog ate it - especially since it was my favorite go-to sweater when walking him that I bought another within two days of the first one being eaten. (And, yes, I still have the dog.) I've only had this sweater about a month, but I still live in it. And it keeps me dry in a light rain. My recommendation for a female purchaser - buy the men's version as I did. It may be a bit too long in the sleeves, but it is longer overall so gives more protection. My recommendation to LL Bean - use a two-way zipper.
