The water- and wind-resistant Ultralight 850 long down coat for women keeps you warm even when it’s 30 below outside. The length and attached hood add protection against wind while the 850-fill insulation allows for a slimmer profile.
Size & Fit
  • Slightly Fitted.
  • Best with midweight layer.
  • Fall below knee.
  • If you prefer a more relaxed fit, please order one size up.
Why We Love It
Our lightest goose down outerwear features a highly water-resistant finish. In fact, DownTEK down absorbs one-third the moisture and dries two-thirds faster than untreated down. This coat’s 850-fill down insulation provides the same warmth as 650-fill down insulations with a fraction of the weight. Compresses down small, so it's easy to take with you.

  • Dense ripstop nylon shell.
  • 850-fill goose down insulation, treated with DownTEK™ for water-resistance.
  • Machine wash and dry.

Ultralight 850 Down Coat, Long is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 242.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from nice fit, low weight quality for winter weather I ordered the coat in two different sizes based on reviews I had read figuring that this would give me options for a good size for me. I loved the length, but I was looking for a long warm winter coat to wear with skirts in Midwest Wisconsin. I was very disappointed with the quality based on the rating for -30 degrees. Since the temps. have already been to 20 degrees (0 degrees with windchill), I wasn't even tempted to wear this coat outside, reverting to wearing my orange parka (purchased from LLBean many years ago). I will be returning both coats and looking elsewhere for a heavy weight long winter coat to wear with dresses and skirts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from L.L. Bean NAILED IT! Love this coat. Wanted to buy it last winter but waited too long and it sold out in store and online. True to size; I wear a size 8 top but a size 12 pant and a medium fit well across the hips (didn't have to go to a large). Hood is well cut; it isn't too big that it falls halfway down your face and doesn't fall back, either. Zipper comes up to the neck just below the chin, hits perfectly. I found it absolutely warm enough in 30 degree temps, surprised that another reviewer didn't find it warm. I wear it to the office over a business suit and I wear it over jeans to walk my dog, looks great in any situation. Extremely pleased with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from gorgeous coat! The coat is beautiful - I love it. I had had an LL Bean down coat for over 35 years, and had never been cold in it, but I almost got stuck forever in it because the zipper locked, and I decided it was time for a new one. This one is so much lighter in weight, so much slimmer fitting, and the icy gray color looks perfect with my gray hair. Tested it on one cold 25 degree day, and it was toasty, haven't tried 0 degrees, but feel sure it will pass the test. Someone asked what my husband had given me for Christmas, and I said "A new coat, but he doesn't know about it yet." I'm looking forward to wearing it for another 35 years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this coat! I debated about spending the money on this coat, but am glad I did. I have only had it for a couple of days, and I love it! It arrived just in time for below zero temps and wind ("feels like" teens and twenties below zero). This coat has exceeded my expectations and has kept me warm with a midweight layer underneath and warm boots. This coat is also very comfortable to wear while driving, and an added bonus is that not having heated car seats, this coat keeps my backside warm, too. Regarding styling, I agree with other reviewers about liking the understated same color logo on the sleeves, which I didn't even notice until I looked for them. I also love the Mariner Blue color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm swooning! and freezing cold. I've researched a new winter coat until my eyes bleed. (As i do everything i'm going to buy.) long? check! hood? check! warm? oh my god, yes, check! extremely, insanely light weight? wow, check!! here's the deal, though, i've been DYING for it to arrive in the mail and SUFFERING with my fall coat while waiting, and guess what? it's too big. I ordered a Petite/Small. It's HUGE on me. Length is fine, arm length is fine, it's the volume of fabric that's huge. I could be 6 months pregnant inside of it and it would still fit. So, I'm still in love with it and I'm returning for a Petite/XS. Guidance for you: I am 5'1" tall, 120 lbs and I wear a size 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight & comfortable I'm rating this coat on quality, weight, and comfort. I am on my way to Croatia and needed a warm coat for winter. The key factors in this purchase was weight and warmth, for luggage weight issues. The only issue I cannot review yet, is the warmth because I will be arriving in September. The coat is super lightweight and I was able to roll it up and tuck it in my suitcase. That is a big plus! It appears to be a quality garment and true to size. I wear a sz. 14 and ordered a Large, and it fit me perfectly, even in the bust where I sometimes have problems with garments being snug. With it being 850 down, I'm expecting it to keep me toasty warm without the bulk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm - lightweight - just what I needed I bought this coat because I travel a lot and needed something really lightweight to pack, yet warm enough for places like Salt Lake City and Portland, ME. I wore my coat for the first time while in Cleveland, where it was snowing and wind chill of 13 degrees F. I was warm and the hood kept the wind out of my face. I had forgotten my gloves, but the fleece-lined pockets kept my hands warm. Overall a great coat. Only one minor thing - the zipper is a little difficult to navigate since it's a long coat. I find I need to sit down to get the zipper aligned to zip it up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No taper in middle; fits like a wide tube. The fit of this is too wide in the middle. It does not taper at all but rather, fits like a straight tube. I haven't worn it but tried it on outside on a windy evening and did not find it warm enough, partly because it did not fit snugly enough around the torso. This was in the XS so this is as small as it gets. I think it would probably be an excellent coat if it was designed with a little taper around the midsection. It would also be a lot more flattering. If you are pretty wide in your midsection, this coat might work well for you; if you have a slight build, you might want to consider a different style. Unfortunately,I will be returning it.
