Rated 1 out of 5 by Kreitz86 from Waxed Canvas Trapper Pack I was really excited to get this. When it came in the mail and I opened it I was deeply disappointed on how cheap the bag is made. They used nylon for the backing and the inside which just takes all the rustic and rugged appeal out of the bag. The front looks nice but I can't believe how cheap they went on materials. They had the right idea for it with the leather and waxed canvas but I know that the flimsy nylon straps and backing won't hold up. I would much rather pay a little more for better quality. If they would have heavier duty leather straps and get rid of the nylon and replace it with the waxed canvas or leather I would give this bag 5 stars in a hurry. This is definitely not LLBean quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by UpstateNYGuy from Trapper Pack This is a great looking trapper backpack...the quality is great. The waxed canvas and leather quality is great. It has the potential to hold lots of gear. First trip into the woods it carried game cameras, cable locks, a sportsmans pal machete, water bottle, extra gloves & hat, and finally a box of 20 gauge shotgun shells...with plenty of room for more gear. It kept my gear dry shedding water & snow. The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are that the should straps are thin & unpadded with no sternum cross-strap and it just has 1 smallish inside pocket...however...don't let that stop you from investing in this pack as it is a great pack and should last for many years...

Rated 5 out of 5 by pharmacyguy from amazing bag Just received this today and I am absolutely amazed at the quality and carrying capacity of this bag. The leather is absolutely beautiful and very heavy and the waxed canvas feels like it is ready to take a lot of abuse. I put 5 beach towels and my swim shorts in it as a test and it could still hold a bit more. I will get a great deal of use using this at the beach, the boat and the mountains. Another great well built product from ll bean!! If you are looking for a multi use bag for work or recreation, look no further, this bag will do the job you need and look great doing it. I can see taking it on a day hike or a weekend away. Nice nice nice...

Rated 3 out of 5 by BirdmanCote from Work in progress I purchased 18 months ago. Nice bag, I use it for day hikes, beach, city, mountains. I get a lot of positive comments from people. I had to improve a few things: I added thick wool sleeves (the ones sold for safety belts in cars) because the straps are thin. Also, I had a shoemaker sew two small leather straps and brass D rings on the shoulder staps in order to keep them from sliding off. Make sure they are low enough so the straps still slide to open the bag. Looks fantastic, but I wish LLBean would have done it themselves for the price. M

Rated 5 out of 5 by JohnBeanTrapper from Great pack, excellent craftsmanship, comfortable Just what I imagined and hoped for, beautiful heavy waxed canvas with leather bottom and trim and ingenious straps that function also as handles. This pack has the feel and design features of something made 100 years ago that Bean just re-introduced, with only a few new materials, so it looks like something your great grandaddy left up in the attic closet a long time ago and you were lucky enough to discover. Kind of pack you could walk into an upper Eastside NY Brownstone, a hipster pad in Park Slope or a back woods Maine cabin and everyone would think it cool. Just don't tell them where you got it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by mrlucas from Its just not there yet I purchased this to use as the name says on my trap line, as a trappers pack. I used it for 2 weeks. Duties to include carrying a small axe, sifter, trowel, hammer, dry dirt, stakes, and traps. There are many problems with this pack. The waxed canvas and leather are nice rugged materials, but then they mixed in nylon synthetic material that cheapened the look, and hurt the utility of the bag. #1 the straps are not made from any kind of canvas, but a cheaper synthetic material. They not only looked bad, but were not comfortable and performed poorly. #2 the bag does not want to stand up on it's own. #3 the way the straps are designed it makes it hard to load and unload. The the straps extend from the back of the bag through the front, and they are in the way. #4 The nylon lining gives a cheap appearance, and it's dark colors make it hard to see into. #5 the nylon draw cord closure at the top is unnecessary, gets in the way, and tore within the first few days. LL bean as a company is wonderful, and their customer service is next to none. I do feel however that some of their products are starting to weaken in quality, this pack being one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DF187 from Trapper Pack Basket Love the idea, but the execution is of concern. Specifically, the straps are fairly narrow and are made with lighter weight material that makes it not the most comfortable to carry and worries me that the wear and tear of the straps will give out sooner? A slightly wider and reinforced strap would certainly be an improvement..

Rated 1 out of 5 by rusticwoman from Not as Expected I was disappointed to find that LL Bean combined synthetic materials with the high quality canvas and leather. The inside of the bag features a slippery lining - maybe nylon? The shoulder straps have some sort of polyester padding. I sent back my bag, but would definitely buy it if they changed the bag lining to a light-colored cotton and used cotton webbing , leather, or canvas on the straps. The idea of a soft style pack basket was brilliant, but I felt that they cut corners wit some of the materials.
