Men's Trail Model 4 Waterproof Hiking Shoes is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware, NOT Waterproof! I am going to start by saying that I used to own the original version of these hiking shoes but in the mid top and I could stand with the toe submerged in water for hours and never get wet. I decided to purchase a pair of the low top shoe version for work and on the first day I wore them in a damp grass field with a slight drizzle all day. By the end of the day my toes were soaked. Beware, by no means are these hiking shoes waterproof. These "waterproof" hiking shoes should at least withstand damp to wet conditions for hours but that was not the case. I will be returning them when I have the chance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for hiking I've been wearing these hiking shoes almost daily for a year on semi-rugged trails, logging 2-5 miles a day (except when the snow's heavy). I have a narrow foot so I added some Dr. Scholls-type shoe inserts; the fit was perfect after that. The shoes have held together nicely, showing only some minor wear around the ankle, and the tread still has a sure grip. I recently bought a replacement pair on sale to store away, as shoe models are often discontinued. I also bought a high-ankle version of the same shoe to use on more rugged trails to guard against rolling and possibly spraining my ankle. That should hold me for a few more years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bean's sizing I bought a pair of another Bean shoe a few years ago that is the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever wore. I bought another pair that was a little larger and they are great. I also have some other Bean clothes that don't fit good. I have realized that a lot of Bean products are made on the small side. Now I order or go into the store and buy my items in the next size up. I think Bean has to start to cater to the "older, mature sized" customer that is NOT built like their magazine models. I do like most of Beans products and I buy a large portion of my clothes there. I wish they would offer a nice pair of chinos with a elastic waistband in an aged coloring style. Cabelas gets my money for their pants. I may gripe about things but I do like shopping at Beans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shoelaces This is a great pair of shoes. I wear them every day during the winter as they are light hikers and ideal for the 1 hour walk to the University every morning. They last a season (plus use in the summer) and then have to be replaced. Perfectly normal. The only difficulty is that I always have to buy new shoelaces after about 3 months as the ones that come with the shoes have stretched out. It is not a major expense, mind you, but it is an annoyance. The shoelaces gradually simply get longer and longer until finally they are too long to be used. I only have this problem with LLBean shoes and boots; other companies I buy from don't seem to suffer this defect. But it isn't expensive or much of a bother buying shoelaces but you might order an extra pair or even an extra two pairs when you buy the shoes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from waterproof, comfortable, clean up nicely My wife and I each got a pair to use while hiking in Alaska. The Chilkoot Trail and wooded areas off the trail in Denali were both extremely muddy. We didnt't think the shoes would ever look like new again. But, each time, we washed them in the shower or bathtub, let them dry overnight, and they indeed looked like new again. We wore hiking socks with them, and they were quite comfortable. Last month we took them to Europe because they are waterproof and it was quite rainy. They kept us dry and were again comfortable for about 10 miles of daily walking. Style-wise, I swapped between these and my New Balance 870 runners. The styling is somewhat similar. These, of course, are much firmer in the middle, which is desirable during hiking. I had a problem with a lace loop breaking so I returned them and got another pair. It appears that the loops are better reinforced now than they were with my old pair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Great "Walking" Shoe I'm an old man that does a lot of walking and that is what these shoes look like....an old man's walking shoe. All they need is a velcro closure. I have purchased two previous models of these "hiking" shoes and was much happier with the look of previous models. I am concerned about the toe cap, it is kind of skimpy for a shoe that calls itself a "hiker". The synthetic material between the leather gussets is really shiny, not something I like. They are very comfortable. The leather appears top shelf and the detail of stitching/assembly exhibits craftsmanship. I have yet to give them the call of the wild test. Note: beef up the toe cap, get rid of the shine then call it a hiker

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Boot I bought these low cut boots for a trip to Machu Piccu and loved them. They provided great stability hiking on the rocky and uneven terrain. The sole is sturdy with a bit of flexibility so your feet doesn't take a beating. The traction provided strong grip even in the slick conditions there. It started raining on our hike and the boot kept my feet dry. The shoes are super comfortable too, which is surprising given they are hiking boots. I find these shoes are excellent in the snow as well. I have snow boots but have started to wear these instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value I wear between 10.5 and 11, so I ordered 11's. I use a gel pad insole for walking. When I put the insoles in, the shoes fit perfectly, just like my other size 11's. I wore them out of the box new, no break-in this morning, walked 2.5 miles. They feel great, like I've had them for years. They are good shoes for the price, especially when on sale. I may treat them with a waterproofing spray.
