Rated 5 out of 5 by mkshf from Indestructible backpack We bought our son one of these backpacks when he was in preschool (it hung down to his knees, but he had wanted one like his older sisters' packs). He used this backpack for 11 years, from preschool through 8th grade. Aside from a little wear on the bottom corners of the pack, it was in perfect condition. He only changed backpacks because he wanted one that he felt was a more mature color for starting high school. He is in college now and is still using the backpack he got before 9th grade and it is in great condition, despite his lugging around heavy books each day. I would highly recommend these backpacks to everyone. Well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Momx4at35 from Amazing quality I ordered a new backpack for my book loving 8th grader this week. After carrying the same LLBean backpack since 2nd grade, it finally got too beat up, and I suspect that she just wanted a style that reflected her teenage self, not her 8 year old style. People ask why I would spend so much money on a back pack for my child for school. This is actually a bargain. Just divide the cost by the 7 years we have gotten out of it, less than 10/year. The 20 - 30 dollars you will spend in another store, for a backpack that, if you are lucky, will only last one school year, is a much bigger expense. Thank you LL Bean, for making such a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by getout2play from So Far So Good! Purchased for my boys three years ago, they are now going into 5th and 3rd grades, and they are still going strong. We haven't had any issues w/zippers, holes, or the material wearing out at all. Honestly, they look pretty new for having been used for three full school years. Two issues I have - 1) the lack of water bottle holder, of course, and 2) the bottom should be reinforced to better support the weight of heavy books. The fabric has held up fine so far, but if the bottom was padded and reinforced it would take some of the weight off the kids' shoulders. The overall quality is great, and I would recommend getting them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amanda83 from Best choice ever My son has had this bag since G1 and hes going into G4.He went through 2 bags in kindergarten ...those 20$ superhero bags.I didnt make the same mistake with my daughter , shes going into 2 with the same bag from K . These bags have survived being dragged across the gym floor ,shoved in lockers, thrown on the floor, day camp in the summer , a pillow/bench in the school yard, thrown in the car ...etc etc - when they get gross - a quick wash in the machine ... brand new. I recommend these bags 100x over . You cant go wrong , and the price for the quality - its a joke , youll spend 10x as much buying the cheap dept store bags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BusyMomwith4Kiddos from Love LL Bean backpacks! My daughter's words say it best: "Mom we spend about what the other kids spend on backpacks, but mine holds up and looks like new at the end of the year. The other kids have to get a new one next year." Quality at an affordable cost. We have bought these backpacks for close to 10 years. This specific model does not have an outside compartment for a water bottle, so if you want that feature - may have to go with another model! My youngest 2 got this backpack in 2015, and unless they get tired of the patterns (beautiful colors and patterns - that both kids and moms like!), their backpacks will still be in great shape and useable in 2020. Great job LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lyonmom from Can't be beat (or beat up!) The simplest way to sum up how pleased I am with our LL Bean book bag is to confirm your slogan: "from grade school to grad school" is spot on! Son is going off to college this year with the bag he used in grade school...still looks in great shape and he still likes it despite having been used daily since we bought it (including summer trips, hikes, transporting ice skates, etc.)! This is the only item from his childhood that will accompany him on his college journey. Thanks LL Bean for making products that last! My family has been buying your products for over 40 years...even before it was trendy to buy from "Bean."

Rated 5 out of 5 by johannaaaaaaa from essentially the best friend i've ever had Well, today September 26, 2016, I put down my backpack for the last time. My backpack came into my possession 7 years ago when I was a puny 7th grader, now in my second year of college I have to let it go. Really the best, also maybe the only, backpack I've ever really had. I would 10 out of 10 recommend this to anyone. For those curious, prior to 7th grade I had another LL Bean backpack, however it had a turtle on it and 7th grade can be kind of cutthroat so I had to move on to a more mature, turtle-less backpack. Anyway moral of the story, I love my LL Bean backpack, thank you for the memories, lil buddy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mendo from Lasts a lifetime I bought the navy model of this backpack at the Freeport, ME store in July 1991. The price was right and I thought it might last a few years. As I write this review in February 2014, the backpack is still in regular use. Though the color (except on the back panel) has inevitably faded in the sun, everything works well after so many years of carrying books, lecture notes, laptops with their peripherals, and clothing. Superb simple design, carried out reliably! As seen in the catalog picture, the backpack does not include recent fads such as exposed mesh pockets for water bottles. I see that as a merit--why mess with success.
